SIOUX FALLS, SD/HASTINGS – Dirt Devil softball concluded their summer competition on Sunday with two final weekend tournaments.
The Dirt Devil 18s finished 2-2 during the Ringneck International Tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota while the Dirt Devil 14s went 3-2 in the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch Championships in Hastings.
From the Sherman Softball Complex, the Dirt Devil 18s (15-12) finished their season with a 6-4 loss in the 18U A Division on Sunday against Sanford Sports Academy 18U. On Saturday, the Dirt Devils suffered a 3-1 loss against SD Lonewolf-Athletics and won 9-1 over Kansas Heatwave 18U while opening the Ringneck International Tournament on Friday with a 2-0 win over Prodigy Nationals Thompson 18U.
For the tournament, Rylin Hall (four singles, one double, one homerun) and Delaney Kruse (six singles) posted a team-high six hits (Alexis Legler and Reagan McGuire both added a homerun); Hall and Legler both finished with a team-high four RBI while Lilly Gubbels, Legler and Kruse all scored a team-high three runs.
Sammi Gubbels (284 pitches) started all four games in 17 and a two-third innings allowing 10 runs (six earned) off 12 hits while striking out 21 batters and walking nine.
On Sunday, Sanford Sports Academy scored a run in the first and second innings to lead 2-0. Both teams then scored a run in the third and three runs each in the fourth. Final favored Sanford Sports Academy winning 6-4 despite being outhit, 6-4.
Delaney Kruse singled three times and drove in two runs while Sammi Gubbels singled and drove in a run.
Lily Gubbels singled and scored; Rylin Hall singled; Alexis Legler accounted for a RBI as Jordyn Gamble, Kassidee Holz and Liberty Titiml all scored.
Sammi Gubbels (73 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in four innings allowing six runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out two batters and walking four.
In Hastings, the Dirt Devil 14s (22-16-1) ended their season with a 4-3 loss against Golden Girls 14U. Earlier in the tournament, the Dirt Devils suffered an 8-4 loss against Yutan 14U and won 8-1 over CNSA Rogers-Pack 14U on Saturday while also winning twice on Friday of 12-2 against Lady Rebels 14U and 8-7 over Nebraska Raptors.
For the tournament, Anna Dutcher finished with a team-high six hits (all singles); Kamden Dobbins added five hits including a double, triple and homerun to go with a team-high six RBI as Anna Dutcher also scored a team-high seven runs.
Kinnley McGuire (300 pitches) started all five games in 16 innings allowing 19 runs (12 earned) off 20 hits while striking out 19 batters, walking 11 and hitting six. Lilly Johnson (94) appeared in four of the five games in five and a third innings allowing two runs (one earned) off five hits while striking out and walking three batters each and hitting one.
On Sunday, the Dirt Devil 14s held the early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Golden Girls 14U posted a three-run second inning while the Dirt Devils answered with two runs in the third to tie the game at 3-3. Following back-to-back scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth, Golden Girls 14U scored the game-winning run off an error in the bottom of the sixth to win 4-3 and win the hit department, 6-3.
Kamden Dobbins singled and drove in a run while Lilly Johnson singled and scored.
Alivia Kesting singled as Kinnley McGuire scored.
McGuire (69 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing four runs off four hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one. Johnson (30) worked two innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters.
The Dirt Devil 12s (13-12), Dirt Devil 10s Black (8-27) and Dirt Devil 10s Red (40-5-1) all ended their season. Dirt Devil 10s Red earned a third place finish at the Class C Nebraska Fastpitch Championships in Hastings in late June.
