Dirt Devil softball recap from June 4 - 10

All five Dirt Devil softball teams were in action over the past week. 

Dirt Devil 12s visited Pender on June 10;  Dirt Devil 10s Black visted Kelly's - Dohmen 9u on June 10;  Dirt Devil 10s Red hosted Kelly's 10u on June 10 while Dirt Devil 16/18s; 14s, 12s and 10s Red all competed in distirct tournaments between June 6 - 8.

Also, Dirt Devil 12s, 10s Red and 10s Black all had games on June 4.

Dirt Devil 12s:

From Pender, the Dirt Devil 12s dropped a 4-3 decision at Pender 12u. Dirt Devil 12s are now 12-11-1 on the season.

Kenna Halle and Kiley Dutcher both singled as MaKenna Williamson scored twice.

Sadi Fredrickson also scored.

Harper Hanson (73 pitches) suffered the complete game loss in four innings allowing four runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out six batters, walking one and hitting three.

Dirt Devil 12s will next visit West Point Gray 12u on Thursday, June 12 at 6/7:30 p.m. ahead of the YGSA Tournament in Yankton, SD beginning with Sanford Sports Academy Black 12u at 8 p.m. on Friday.

 

Dirt Devil 10s Black:

With Logan Valley League tourney play approaching, Dirt Devil 10s Black traveled to Norfolk for a doubleheader.

From Ta-Ha-Zouka Park, the Tuesday, June 10 games showcased the Dirt Devils at Kelly's - Dohmen 9u.

Dirt Devil 10s Black dropped both games of 7-5 and 11-2. The Dirt Devils are now 0-15-1 on the season.

During the first game, Izzy McIntosh accounted for a RBI.

Single runs came from Adalyn Brokaw, Harper Rockhill, Gracie Lueth, Skylar Jones and Erin Wieland.

Brokaw (55 pitches) worked an inning allowing seven earned runs off three hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting five. Bexley Sutter (27) pitched two-thirds walking four batters and hitting one.

In the second outing, Brokaw and Jones both scored.

Maggie Sorenson (94) worked an inning and two-thirds allowing nine earned runs off two hits while striking out four batters and walking 13.

Sutter (22) pitched a third of an inning allowing an earned run while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting two. Lennox Ruwe (8) didn't record an out allowing an earned run while walking two batters.

Dirt Devil 10s Black will next visit Tekamah-Herman 10u on Thursday at 6/7:30 p.m. before traveling to Arlington for the Logan Valley League Tournament opening Friday night at 5 p.m. against Bancroft.

 

Dirt Devil 10s Red:

Following weekend district competition and before a trip to Yankton, South Dakota, Dirt Devil 10s Red played host to Kelly's 10u on June 10.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devils suffered losses of 15-8 and 11-1. Dirt Devil 10s Red now sits 12-13-1 on the season.

In the opening game, Delilah Lueth doubled, drove in two runs and scored while Brynlee Suhr singled and scored twice.

Finn Mueller singled and drove in two runs; Caroline Endicott, KayLee Nelson and Charli Sears all singled and scored as Meleah Larson and Kiersten Allen both scored.

Suhr (25 pitches) started and didn't record an out allowing five runs (four earned) off two hits while walking four batters.

Lueth (51) worked an inning and a third allowing six earned runs off three hits while striking out one batter and walking six. Paisllie Erwin (32) pitched an inning allowing four earned runs off two hits while striking out one batter and walking four.

During the night camp, Endicott singled and scored as Nelson singled.

Mueller (61 pitches) started the opening two innings allowing three earned runs while striking out four batters, walking five and hitting three.

Endicott (29) didn't record an out allowing five earned runs off three hits while walking three batters and hitting two. Nelson (11) pitched a third of an inning allowing three earned runs off two hits while walking and hitting one batter each.

Dirt Devil 10s Red, now 14-13-1 through June 11 won twice at Oakland 15-8 and 6-5. The Dirt Devils will next open against Panthers 10u at 5 p.m. and SD Players Black 10u at 6:30 p.m. both on Friday during the YGSA Father's Day Tournament in Yankton, SD.

 

Dirt Devil 16/18s:

Along with the younger youth softball team in Arlington for Class C Districts, Dirt Devil 16/18s earned a spot in the state tournament.

The District 8 & 10, 16/18C Tournament was held June 6 - 8

The older Dirt Devils started with a 13-1 loss to Pender on Friday before winning back-to-back of 4-3 over Cavalry - Brabec 16u and 5-2 against T-H Tigers 16/18s both on Saturday. Dirt Devil 16/18s were eliminated on Saturday by the Rockets, 3-2.

The Dirt Devils are now 10-8 on the season.

For the weekend, Reagan McGuire (two singles, two doubles) and Lilly Johnson (four singles) both recorded four hits while Kassidee Holz added three singles.

Anna Dutcher led the team in RBIs with three as Holz added two runs batted in.

Reagan McGuire crossed the plate four times as Rylin Hall and Johnson both tallied two runs.

Jordyn Gamble (214 pitches) worked 14 and two-thirds innings starting three games. She allowed 19 runs (10 earned) off 26 hits while striking out 12 batters and walking two.

Kinnley McGuire (68) pitched four innings starting one game. She allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting one.

Up next for Dirt Devil 16/18s will be the 33rd YGSA Father's Day Tournament in Yankton, South Dakota June 13 - 15. The Dirt Devils will open against Yankton Furty White 18u at 5 p.m. Friday night from Sertoma Park.

The Dirt Devils have also qualified for the Class C State Tournament scheduled for July 4 - 6 in Hastings.

 

Dirt Devil 14s:

Two youth softball teams made their way to Blair for the District 8 & 10 Class C District Tournament.

The June 6 - 8 tourney showcased Dirt Devil 14s.

The Dirt Devils first suffered a 10-4 loss to T-H Tigers 14u on Friday followed by Saturday wins of 11-2 over Nebraska Echoes and 20-6 against Pender 14u. On Sunday, Dirt Devil 14s were eliminated 16-6 by T-H Tigers 14u.

The Dirt Devils are now 9-9 on the season.

For the weekend, Sidney Nelson posted a team-high six hits (five singles, one double) while Ady Hays added four hits (two singles, two doubles).

Hadley Woehler and Elizabeth Hix both led the team with five RBI while Lucille Ocampo followed with four RBI.

Nelson also tallied a team-high eight runs scored, Hays recorded seven runs and Reagan McManigal crossed the plate five times.

Olivia Brandow (191 pitches) pitched nine innings starting three games. She allowed 18 runs (11 earned) off 11 hits while striking out eight batters, walking 13 and hitting one.

Both Ocampo (63) and Hadley Dunklau (127) worked four innings. In one start, Ocampo allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits while walking five batters. In two appearances, Dunklau allowed 14 runs (four earned) off five hits while striking out three batters and walking eight.

The Dirt Devil 14s have qualified for the Class C State Tournament scheduled for July 4 - 6 in Hastings.

The Dirt Devil 14s (9-9) were scheduled to host North Bend Ambush 14u on June 10 but the games were called off due to low numbers by North Bend. The Dirt Devils are back in action on Thursday, June 12 hosting Ponca at 6:30/8 p.m.

 

Dirt Devil 12s:

Among the 37 teams in the District 8 & 10 Tournament, Dirt Devil 12s played three games in Blair.

The tourney was scheduled for June 6 - 8.

The Dirt Devils first won 4-2 over Bennington Elite - Hammes 11u on Friday before dropping back-to-back on Saturday of 7-2 against NE Quakes - Foulk 12u and 7-5 to Mead.

Dirt Devil 12s are now 12-10-1 on the season.

For the weekend, Harper Hanson recorded eight hits (four singles, two doubles, two triples) while MaKenna Williamson and Penelope Zavada-Cupp both added four singles.

Zavada-Cupp led the team with three RBI as Hanson tallied two RBI.

Two runs were scored by Hanson, Williamson, Zavada-Cupp, Nora Heithold and Sadi Fredrickson.

Williamson (161 pitches) pitched eight innings appearing in two games and starting one. She allowed 11 runs (eight earned) off 13 hits while striking out eight batters, walking six and hitting one.

Hanson (81) worked four innings appearing in two games and starting one. She allowed five runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out six batters and walking three.

Depending on a decision from the Dirt Devil Softball Association, Dirt Devil 14s could qualify for the Class D state tournament.

 

Dirt Devil  10s Red:

One of the Dirt Devil 10u youth softball teams took part in District 8 & 10 Class C tourney action between June 6 - 8.

From Arlington, Dirt Devil 10s Red began with a 14-2 victory over DC West Falcons. On Saturday, the Dirt Devils suffered losses of 12-0 to Bennington Badgers - Larson 10u and 13-11 to West Point Diamonds 10u.

Dirt Devil 10s Red is now 12-11-1.

For the weekend, Delilah Lueth singled four times while Caroline Endicott added three singles.

Lueth led the team with five RBI followed by Finn Mueller with two runs batted in.

Lueth, KayLee Nelson, Paisllie Erwin and Endicott all crossed the plate four times.

Mueller (105 pitches) pitched four innings of the six and two-thirds from the team appearing in two games and starting one. She allowed nine earned runs off four hits while striking out eight batters, walking six and hitting five.

Lueth (73) worked an inning and a third starting one game. She allowed eight earned runs off one hit while striking out three batters and walking 11.

Depending on a decision from the Dirt Devil Softball Association, Dirt Devil 10s Red could qualify for the Class D state tournament.

 

 

June 4 games:

The Dirt Devil 12s traveled for a single game on Wednesday, June 4.

From West Point, the Dirt Devils picked up a 9-4 victory over West Point Yellow. Dirt Devil 12s improved to 11-8-1.

During the single outing, Harper Hanson recorded a two-run homerun while also adding two singles, three total RBI and two runs scored while Penelope Zavada-Cupp singled three times, drove in a run and scored.

MaKenna Williamson singled twice and scored twice while Nora Heithold singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Sadi Fredrickson and Willa Ruth both singled and drove in a run; Zoe Myer accounted for a RBI as single runs came from Kiley Dutcher, Izzy Ruwe and Kenlsey Holz.

Williamson (46 pitches) started the opening two and a third innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out five batters and walking two.

Hanson (19) worked an inning and two-thirds striking out two batters. Fredrickson (20) closed out the final inning allowing two earned runs of one hit while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting one.

 

 

While Dirt Devil 10s Black took on one West Point team, Dirt Devil 10s Red competed against the opposite in early June.

From the Summer Sports Complex, Dirt Devil 10s Red first posted an 11-11 tie against West Point Diamonds 10u followed by a 15-12 victory over West Point Gray 10u.

The Dirt Devils moved to 11-9-1 through June 4.

During the first game, KayLee Nelson tripled, drove in a run and scored twice; Bianca Hanson singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Caroline Endicott doubled, drove in a run and scored as Finn Mueller doubled and scored twice.

Delilah Lueth also singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Charli Sears singled, drove in three runs and scored as Paisllie Erwin singled and scored twice.

Lueth (81 pitches) started the opening two and two-thirds allowing five earned runs while striking out six batters and walking nine.

Brynlee Suhr (27) worked a third of an inning allowing five earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter, walking four and hitting one. Erwin (12) didn't record an out allowing an earned run off one hit while walking and hitting one batter each.

During the second outing, Endicott singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Mueller doubled, drove in a run and scored twice as Lueth doubled and scored twice. Sears also singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Hanson singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Kiersten Allen singled, drove in a run and scored; Nelson and Meleah Larson both scored twice as Erwin scored.

Erwin (56 pitches) opened with an inning allowing five earned runs off one hit while striking out three batters and walking eight.

Endicott (27) didn't record an out allowing five earned runs while walking five batters and hitting one. Mueller (40) closed out the final inning allowing two earned runs while striking out three batters, walking three and hitting two.

 

 

Mid-week Dirt Devil home softball took over the June 4 schedule for Dirt Devil 10s Black.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devils welcomed two teams from West Point.

Dirt Devil 10s Black suffered losses of 7-5 to West Point Gray 10u and 15-7 against West Point Diamonds 10u. The Dirt Devils are now 0-13-1 on the season.

In the opening game, Maggie Sorenson doubled while Adalyn Brokaw singled, drove in two runs and scored.

Grace Foote singled, drove in a run and scored as single runs came from Brynn Virgil, Skylar Jones and Izzy McIntosh.

Sorenson (90 pitches) worked four innings allowing seven runs (three earned) off three hits while striking out 10 batters, walking four and hitting one.

During the second outing, limited stats were provided.

Coach Megan Virgil said, "we had girls get the stick on the ball, but were thrown out."

Brokaw pitched one inning while Sorenson also saw time in the circle. Sorenson recorded three strikeouts.
