Dirt Devil softball recaps June 19 - 23

Three of the five Dirt Devil youth softball teams ended their season with two of the older teams still in action through June and into early July.

Dirt Devil 10s Red goes 1-0-1 vs. Bancroft

With one final home doubleheader being played on June 24 (game was canceled due to weather), Dirt Devil 10s Red youth softball players were in action on June 23 hosting Bancroft.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devils played to a 15-15 tie in game one followed by a 10-7 victory over Bancroft. Dirt Devil 10s Red is now 19-16-3 on the season.

In the opening contest, KayLee Nelson singled, doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored three times; Charli Sears singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Finn Mueller singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Brynlee Suhr and Kiersten Allen both singled and scored twice; Meleah Larson singled and scored; Bianca Hanson singled as Delilah Lueth and Paisllie Erwin both scored twice.

Delilah Lueth (19) didn't record an out allowing four earned runs while walking four batters. Erwin (23) followed for a third of an inning allowing an earned run while striking out one batter and walking four.

Suhr (48) worked two-thirds of an inning allowing five earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter, walking seven and hitting one. Mueller (42) closed out the final two-thirds allowing five runs (four earned) off one hit while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting two.

During the second outing, Hanson singled, drove in a run and scored as Nelson singled and scored twice.

Delilah Lueth scored twice as single runs came from Sears, Mueller, Allen, Larson and Erwin.

Mueller (59 pitches) started the opening inning and two-thirds allowing seven earned runs while striking out five batters, walking six and hitting four. Nelson (6) closed out the final third of an inning.

Dirt Devil 10s Black ends season with road split

A 25 game season wrapped up during the final full week of June for members of the Dirt Devil 10s Black youth softball team.

From Pender, the Dirt Devils won 15-8 in the first game followed by a 17-4 loss in the night cap. Dirt Devil 10s Black ends their season at 4-20-1, winning four of their final seven games.

In the opening contest, Harper Rockhill singled, drove in three runs and scored twice while Adalyn Brokaw singled, drove in a run and scored twice.

Brynn Virgil accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Erin Wieland, Grace Foote, Lennox Ruwe and Izzy McIntosh all added a RBI and run scored; Skylar Jones and Gracie Lueth both scored twice as Maggie Sorenson crossed the plate once.

Sorenson (75 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in three innings allowing eight earned runs off six hits while striking out six batters, walking three and hitting one.

During the second outing, Brokaw singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Virgil scored twice and Foote added a single run.

Sorenson (47 pitches) started the opening inning and two-thirds allowing eight earned runs off five hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting two. Brokaw (47) didn't record an out allowing 10 earned runs off two hits while walking seven batters and hitting two.

 

 

Dirt Devil 12s place third at league tourney

Just two Dirt Devil youth softball teams were in action during their respective Logan Valley League Tournament in West Point over the weekend.

During the 12u division, the Dirt Devils played six of their seven games on Saturday picking up a third place finish at the Logan Valley League Tournament.

Dirt Devil 12s began Friday night with a 10-2 win followed by a Saturday morning loss of 10-3 to Pender 12u. The Dirt Devils then won four straight being 8-0 against Arlington, 8-3 over West Point Yellow 12u, 12-6 against Fremont Force - Milady 12u and 4-2 over Pender 12u. Dirt Devil 12s fell one game shy of the finals following a 7-0 loss to Tekamah-Herman Gold 12u to end their season at 24-16-1.

Harper Hanson (five singles, three doubles, two triples, one homerun) recorded a team-high 11 hits while Sadi Fredrickson (seven singles, two doubles, one triple) added 10 hits. Hanson also led the team with nine RBI while Nora Heithold followed with five runs batted in. Hanson crossed the plate eight times with Fredrickson and MaKenna Williamson right behind with seven runs each.

Williamson (253 pitches) pitched 14 and a third appearing in four games and starting two. She allowed six runs (five earned) off 11 hits while striking out 21 batters, walking eight and hitting three.

Hanson (219) worked 12 and a third appearing in five games and starting three. She allowed 15 runs (14 earned) off 12 hits while striking out 12 batters, walking 12 and hitting two.

 

 

Dirt Devil 14s go 1-2 during league tourney

Two Dirt Devil youth softball teams competed in their respective Logan Valley League Tournament in West Point over the weekend.

In the 14u division all on June 21, the Dirt Devils began with a 16-2 victory over West Point 14u to snap a five game losing streak. The Dirt Devils then lost back-to-back of 11-9 against T-H Tigers 14u and 11-1 to Pender 14u. The Dirt Devil 14s fell to 11-17.

Leaders over the weekend at the plate were Hadley Woehler with four singles as Chloe Kai added three singles and a double. Ady Hays and Kai each accounted for four RBI. Elizabeth Hix posted a team-high five runs scored followed by Olivia Brandow and Abbey Shultheis both with four runs scored.

Lucille Ocampo (154 pitches) pitched seven innings appearing in two games and starting one. She allowed 16 runs (14 earned) off 10 hits while striking out six batters, walking eight and hitting six.

Brandow (125) worked five and a third appearing in three games and starting two. She allowed eight runs (seven earned) off five hits while striking out six and walking 12.

Dirt Devil 14s were scheduled to host Bennington Badgers - Martinez 14u on June 25 but the games were canceled due to weather. The Dirt Devils will also host Dakota Valley 14u on Monday, June 30 at 6/7:30 p.m.

 

 

Dirt Devil 14s fall at Crofton

As league tourney action takes over a weekend, the Dirt Devil 14s took to the road on June 19 for a single outing.

From Crofton, the Dirt Devils suffered a 9-7 loss at Crofton Warriors 14u. The Dirt Devils are now 10-15 on the season.

Ady Hays singled, doubled, tripled and scored twice as Elizabeth Hix singled, drove in a run and scored.

Olivia Brandow singled and drove in two runs; Reagan McManigal singled and scored; Sidney Nelson and Avery Gubbels both singled; Hadley Woehler accounted for two RBI and a run scored; Abbey Shultheis added a RBI and run scored as Lucille Ocampo scored.

Brandow (49 pitches) started the opening two innings allowing three runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out two batters and walking four. Ocampo (35) worked an inning allowing six runs off one hit while striking out one batter, walking two and hitting one.

 

 

Dirt Devil 12s take down West Point Yellow

As league tournament action closes out the season for the Dirt Devil 12s, one final home game was held on June 19.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, the Dirt Devils won 12-2 against West Point Yellow to improve to 19-14-1.

In the single outing, Sadi Fredrickson singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Penelope Zavada-Cupp singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice as Harper Hanson tripled, drove in three runs and scored.

Izzy Ruwe singled, drove in a run and scored; MaKenna Williamson singled and scored twice; Kenna Halle singled and scored; Zoe Myer singled; Kensley Holz accounted for a RBI; Nora Heithold scored twice as Rebecca Fowle scored.

Hanson (64 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in four innings allowing two runs off one hit while striking out five batters, walking three and hitting one.

 

 

Dirt Devil 10s Red sweeps Wisner

Two home doubleheaders remained on the schedule for Dirt Devil 10s Red as the youth softball team was also on their home diamond on June 19.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Dirt Devils won twice against Wisner with scores of 15-6 and 15-8. Dirt Devil 10s Red is now 18-16-2 on the season.

In the opening game, Caroline Endicott tripled, drove in a run and scored twice while Meleah Larson tripled and scored twice.

Charli Sears and Paisllie Erwin both singled, drove in a run and scored; Bianca Hanson singled and scored twice; Finn Mueller and Delilah Lueth both scored twice as single runs came from KayLee Nelson, Brynlee Suhr and Kiersten Allen.

Erwin (41 pitches) worked two innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting one. Suhr (40) followed a third of an inning allowing five earned runs while striking out one batter and walking six.

During the second outing, Nelson recorded a grand slam, driving in four runs and scoring once; Mueller singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Endicott singled twice and scored twice.

Delilah Lueth singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Larson and Hanson both scored twice as single runs came from Sears, Suhr, Erwin and Allen.

Lueth (37 pitches) started the opening inning allowing three earned runs while striking out two batters and walking five.

Nelson (40) worked a third of an inning allowing five earned runs while striking out one batter, walking six and hitting two. Allen (6) didn't record an out walking one batter.

 

 

Dirt Devil 10s Black win at Bancroft

With one more night of Dirt Devil 10s Black softball action on June 23, a single road outing was played on June 19.

From Bancroft, the Dirt Devils secured a 13-7 victory at Bancroft improving to 3-19-1.

During the single game, Adalyn Brokaw singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times as Harper Rockhill singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Grace Foote singled; Maggie Sorenson accounted for a RBI and three runs scored; Brynn Virgil added a RBI and run scored; Gracie Lueth and Erin Wieland both drove in a run; Lennox Ruwe scored twice as single runs came from Bexley Sutter, Izzy McIntosh and Skylar Jones.

Sorenson (81 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in two and two-thirds allowing seven earned runs off one hit while striking out seven batters, walking seven and hitting three.
