DIRT DEVIL UPDATE – 10’s get sweep at home

Here are results from Thursday’s Dirt Devil softball action:

Dirt Devil 10’s sweep Wisner – The Wayne Dirt Devils 10-under softball team swept a doubleheader from Wisner at home Thursday, winning 15-4 and 13-12.

In the opener, Wayne scored five runs in each of the three innings as 10 different Devils scored runs. Mackenzie Nissen, Kierah Haase, Rylin Hall, Jersi Jensen and Caitlyn Mostek each scored two runs in the win. Hall pitched three innings and struck out six.

In the nightcap, Wayne got out to a 4-0 lead early as the two teams engaged in a high-scoring battle. Haase scored three runs, Jensen and Delaney Kruse each scored two and Hall, Mostek, Taytem Ellis, Sammi Gubbels, Madilyn Janke and Joslyn Johnson each scored runs. Nissen and Kruse combined to pitch the win.

The Dirt Devils 10-under team is home on Tuesday to host Kelly’s of Norfolk.

Dirt Devil 18-under team wins at Tekamah – The Wayne Dirt Devils 18-under team won a wild battle on the road, taking an 11-6 win over Tekamah.

Wayne trailed 4-2 in the fourth when they took control of the game with six runs. Kennedy Maly and Jenna Trenhaile both hit two-run homers and Grace Lindsay added a two-run single to highlight the big inning. Maly added a two-run triple and Danica Schaefer stroked an RBI single in the fifth to help Wayne finish off the win.

Maly was 3-for-3 with six RBI’s to highlight a 13-hit attack. Schaefer and Trenhaile both had two hits and Trenhaile and Lindsay each had two RBI’s. Courtney Bokemper scattered six hits and struck out three to get the win.

The 25-4-1 Dirt Devils will play in league tournament action this weekend in Wisner, with games Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Dirt Devil 14’s split at Tekamah – The Wayne Dirt Devils 14-under team split a doubleheader at Tekamah on Thursday, winning the opener 12-5 before losing the nightcap 13-1.

In the first game, Kayla Fleming and Chloe King each had two hits to lead an eight-hit effort. Tori Ostrand doubled and Amara Hurlbert, Nikki Fertig and MiKenzie Schafer each had hits. Hurlbert struck out two and walked three to get the win.

In the nightcap, Ostrand’s double was the only hit for the Dirt Devils.

The 14-under Devils compete in league action this weekend.
