Wayne State men's basketball coach Brian Dolan has been relieved of his duties, according to an announcement late Wednesday morning by athletic director Mike Powicki.
In a phone interview with The Wayne Herald late Wednesday morning, Powicki said that he could not comment on the reason for Dolan’s termination, other than to say that Dolan “Will not be back next year.”
“I want to thank Brian for his hard work and dedication to our men’s basketball program and Wayne State College,“ Powicki said in a news release. “I most certainly wish him well in the future.”
Dolan came to Wayne State in the summer of 2013 with the hopes of matching what he had done at Upper Iowa, taking the Peacocks from the basement of the Northern Sun Conference to the school’s first-ever appearance in an NCAA Div. II men’s basketball regional.
Dolan was 21-65 in his three seasons as the Wildcats' coach. Powicki told The Wayne Herald that he was meeting with the team Wednesday afternoon, and that a national search to find Dolan’s replacement will be conducted immediately.
