Duane E. Lund "Cover", 91, of Allen, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2025 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25 at First Lutheran Church in Allen. Officiating will be Rev. Deb Hammer. Private family inurnment will be at Lime Creek Cemetery, Maskell. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 at First Lutheran Church in Allen. Military Rites will be by Floyd Gleason American Legion Post #31 of Allen.
Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Randolph is in charge of the arrangements.
Duane was born on Dec. 12, 1933 in a farm house south of Maskell, to Jay and Grace (Soden) Lund, weighing 8 1/4 pounds. Fifteen minutes later his twin brother, Douglas "Digger," was born. Duane graduated from Allen High School in 1951. After high school Duane stayed on the farm helping his dad for a couple years. He then moved to California for four months before he was called into the service for two years. While serving in the army he spent most of his time in Germany. After serving his country, he returned home and started farming in the Martinsburg and Allen area.
Duane met the love of his life Barbara Egbert and the two were married April 3, 1960 in Sioux City, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Tracy, Ross, Eric, Kurt, and Heidi. The family settled down near Martinsburg. Duane enjoyed golfing with Bill Gotch in the summer and playing cards in the winter. He was a member of the VFW and member of the First Lutheran Church of Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; children, Tracy Lund of Springfield, Missouri; Ross (Cheryl) Lund of Allen; Eric (Sue) Lund of Spring Creek, Nevada; Kurt (Kimiko) Lund of Omaha; Heidi (Matt) Tomasek of Fort Worth, Texas.; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Grace; stepmother Ella "Donnie"; sister, Janis (brother-in-law Milton); twin brother Douglas "Digger" (sister-in-law Betty); father-in-law, Temple, mother-in-law Dorothy, and brother-in-law, Hugh.
