East Husker Conference Brackets posted; Wakefield girls at West Point-Beemer, boys face Tekamah-Herman on neutral court

In their first year transitioning from the Lewis and Clark to the East Husker Conference, the Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams will open tourney play this weekend.

The Wakefield girls are 3-14 and have dropped back-to-back following a 44-31 home loss against Homer on Monday while the Wakefield boys have won five in a row entering 8-7 ahead of Tuesday’s road boys only game at Crofton.

*Team records are through Monday, Jan. 27.

East Husker Conference girls tourney games will open on Friday, Jan. 31 as #1 Pender (17-2) and #2 Oakland-Craig (15-2) both earned first round byes into Monday, Feb. 3.

#13 Wakefield girls will play at #4 West Point-Beemer (13-4) scheduled for around 7:30 p.m. on Friday The first game of the day in West Point will showcase #5 Humphrey-Lindsay (14-3) vs. #12 Madison (6-11) at 6 p.m.

Other first round match-ups will be:

In Clarkson: #8 Stanton (11-6) vs. #9 Bancroft-Rosalie (7-8) at 6 p.m. followed by #7 Clarkson-Leigh (9-8) vs. #10 Wisner-Pilger (7-10).

In North Bend: #6 Howells-Dodge (12-6) vs. #11 Lyons-Decatur Northeast (7-10) at 6 p.m. followed by #3 North Bend Central (11-6) vs. #14 Tekamah-Herman (1-16).

Girls quarterfinals will be played in Pender and Oakland on Monday, Feb. 3; semifinals in Pender on Thursday, Feb. 6 as well as the consolation and finals in Pender on Saturday, Feb. 8.

East Husker boys tourney games will open on Saturday, Feb. 1 as #1 Pender (16-2) and #2 West Point-Beemer (12-4) both earned first round byes into Tuesday, Feb. 4.

#8 Wakefield boys will face #9 Tekamah-Herman (8-8) at 6 p.m. in Humphrey on Saturday followed by #7 Humphrey-Linday (8-8) vs. #10 Lyons-Decatur Northeast (5-12).

Other first round match-ups will be:

In Oakland: #5 Howells-Dodge (13-4) vs. #12 Clarkson-Leigh (2-14) at 6 p.m. followed by #4 Oakland-Craig (13-3) vs. #13 Madison (7-9).

In Bancroft: #6 North Bend Central (9-7) vs. #11 Wisner-Pilger (2-14) at 6 p.m. followed by #3 Bancroft-Rosalie (12-2) vs. #14 Stanton (1-15).

Boys quarterfinals will be played in Pender and West Point on Tuesday, Feb. 4; semifinals will be in Pender on Friday, Feb. 7 and consolations and finals in Pender on Saturday, Feb. 8.

EHC loser’s bracket games will also be played on Monday and Tuesday as well as quarterfinal loser’s on Thursday and Friday next week.
