The Celebration of Life for Edwin M. Brogie, 73, of Wayne will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at The Beaumont, located at 2611 North Highway 15 in Wayne. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Ed passed away with his wife, Lee, by his side Wednesday morning, Aug. 12, 2026 at his home in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.

Edwin Marlin Brogie was born Aug. 21, 1952, in Norfolk to Edwin John and Vera (Kruse) Brogie.   Ed lived his entire life in Wayne County (Hoskins and Wayne).  He attended Hoskins School grades K-8 and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1970.  After receiving his AA degree, Ed transferred from Northeast Community College to Wayne State College where he graduated with a BS in Biology and Chemistry and an MS in Curriculum.

Ed’s passion for God, family, friends, students, science, science research, birds, archery, hunter education, and voluntary service was prevalent throughout his life and career.  He taught high school science at Laurel Concord School from 1975-2009 where in addition to teaching the traditional science courses he started an Independent Science Research program that produced students who won regional, state, national, and international awards. During his time at LLC Ed was also the Track and Field Jumps coach. Ed was adjunct faculty at Wayne State College and led teacher (Nebraska K-12 Project, Howard Hughes Teacher Institute, Flinn Chemistry, Woodrow Wilson) and student (Bright Lights, Central Honors Institute, Score Camp) science workshops during the summers.

Ed received several local, state, and national awards recognizing his excellence in science teaching including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the Tandy Technology Scholars Award, and NASA’s NEWAST Honors Teachers Award.

 Ed’s volunteer service included bringing meals to the Norfolk Rescue Mission, teaching archery for the National Archery in the Schools Program, conducting bird banding and bird watching outings, teaching Hunter Safety Classes, and helping with the Ike’s Fishing Derby and the Pheasants Forever Youth/Mentor Hunt.  Ed was a board member for a variety of organizations including serving as the Executive Director for the National Association of Academies of Science, President of the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science, and President of the Nebraska Academy of Science.

Survivors include his wife, Lee; sons, John (Ashley) and Joe; two granddaughters Hazel and Eleanor; brother, Mark (Ellen); brothers-in-law, Jim Peterson, Robert Peterson and Steven Peterson; nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
