Edward “Sam” Schroeder,  78, of Wayne, died Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Edward "Sam" Schroeder was born to Orville and Kathleen (Fulton) Schroeder on Oct. 14, 1946 in Omaha. He was raised on the family farm outside of Millard.  He graduated from Millard High School in 1964. He attended and graduated from Wayne State College in 1969, where he met his future wife, Susan Holtz. They were married in South Sioux City on Aug. 12, 1967 and made their home in Wayne. 

He worked for the Wayne County Public Power District and became the manager in 1978. Under his guidance, Wayne County Public Power District merged with Northeast Nebraska Rural Public Power District. After 35 years, he retired to drive truck and enjoy “a window office with a changing view” as he called it. He worked for Slama Trucking and later Slama Farms. He also drove part-time for Vakoc Builder’s Resource.

He was a 4-H leader and belonged to Girl Scouts and was active in several organizations. He received the Wayne Chamber Citizen of the Year award. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School and was a Youth Leader. 

Sam enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. 

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Susan and daughters, Shelli (Joe) Huggenberger of Basehor, Kansas; Shanna (Larry) Hintz of Timnath, Colorado and Shawn (Brian) Moser of Norfolk; siblings, Ann (Glenn) Wolfgang; Rich (Allyson) Schroeder; Sue Richards; in-laws, Arthur (Bonnie) Holtz, Sandy (Danny) Alberts, Barbara (Wayne) Newton and Patty Bengston; grandchildren, Kevin (Bre) Phillips, Savannah Huggenberger (CJ Wright), Dalton Huggenberger, Landon Hintz, Brady Hintz and Izabella Moser; great grandchildren, Ayden, Braylan, Myles, Remi Phillips, Emery and Dom Wright and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Kathleen Schroeder; parents-in-law, Art and Deloris Holtz; daughter, Suzanne Schroeder; great granddaughter, Marlee Phillips; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Phyllis Schroeder; brothers-in-law, Roger Bengston and Larry Richards;  nieces, Tammy Bengston and Cari Bengston.
