Effie L. (Tibbs) Hansen, 97, of Wayne, formerly of Winside, died Monday Feb. 27, 2023 at her home at Kinship Pointe in Wayne.

Private family services will be held. There is  no visitation. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Winside.

Memorials may be directed to the Hansen family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Effie L. Hansen was born March 10, 1925 in Norfolk to Edward Hugh and Shirley Irene (Haner) Tibbs.  Effie grew up and attended school in Norfolk. One of her fabled high school classmates was Johnny Carson. After high school Effie moved to Sioux City, working at Sioux City Battery. She returned to Winside, working at Fleer’s Café where she met her future husband Norris (Toad) Hansen. They were married June 25, 1948 by Rev. Knaub at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winside. The couple began farming in 1949 south of Winside, retiring in 2001. They moved to Wayne in 2003. In 2021 Effie moved to Kinship Pointe.  

Effie enjoyed all the beauties of nature, especially cardinals. She enjoyed reading, art, going to dances and putting together puzzles with her hubby “Toad.” She cherished time spent with her family and friends. Everyone who knew Effie was entertained by her detailed stories of her past.   

Her family includes Denise (Dave) Broders of Wayne and family, Lilly Dayle Broders, Cali Broders and Ransen Broders; Jeanette (John) Young of Sioux City, Iowa and family, Erica (Pete) Luschen, Kelsey (Molly) Young, Alison (Greg) Berger and Kyle Young; and several great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris in 2016; two brothers; two sisters;  two sisters in infancy; and one great-grandson, Tyler Ard.
