Elementary students take deeper dive into Ag

Wayne and Wakefield fifth graders were among the more than 250 students who spent the afternoon expanding their knowledge in the agriculture industry.

From Wisner River Park, the 10th annual Growing Potential Ag Festival showcased nine sessions.

Three fifth grade classes from Wayne (Mrs. Phylis Trenhaile, Ms. Paige Kinnaman and Mrs. Jessica McPhillips) and two from Wakefield (Lynette Haisch and Kari Rooney) joined Holy Trinity (Hartington), Wisner-Pilger, Randolph and West Point-Beemer elementary students.

Topics were corn planting with Lucas Longe (AgriVision Equipment - Pender); drone application (A&L - Wisner); ethanol (Siouxland Ethanol); egg production (Michael Foods - Wakefield/Bloomfield); harvest/combine (AgriVision Equipment  - Pender); cow/calf (Chris Hansen cow/calf); irrigation (Zimmatic Irrigation Solutions by Lindsay/Keiser Ag and Irrigation - Hartington); careers (Farm Bureau Promotion and Engagement Committee) and agronomy (AGC - West Point).

The Ag Festival rotates throughout northeast Nebraska and is sponsored by Northeast Nebraska Corn Growers Association and Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation.
