Elinor Jensen, 87, of Wayne died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015 at Providence Medical Center in  Wayne.

Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne with family present

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne.

Memorials may be directed to the Jensen family for later designation.


Elinor Mae Jensen was born July 4, 1928, on a farm in Dixon County to Arthur and Martha (Frederick) Meyer. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concord and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. She attended Dixon County Rural School.  Elinor married Delbert Jensen on Feb. 15, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. The couple farmed near Laurel and later in the Wayne and Wakefield area, moving into Wayne in 1989. Elinor was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, a church office volunteer, a memorial committee member and involved with the ACME Club. She loved celebrating her birthday on the Fourth of July. Elinor enjoyed gardening, baking, and decorating beautiful birthday cakes for her family,  having unique pets, and attending garage and household sales.  She loved the holidays, preparing holiday meals, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. For many years, Elinor and Delbert displayed a large Nativity at their home which all of the Christmas lighted streets led to.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry (Deb) Jensen of Wayne, Alan (Paula) Jensen of Honey Creek, Iowa, and Ray (Theresa) Jensen of Wakefield; six grandchildren, Joshua Jensen, Jordan Jensen, Jerilyn Jensen, Jana Pratt, Chad Jensen, and Megan McArdle; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert in 2010; and a grandson, Matthew in 2006.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Jensen, Joshua Jensen, Cody Jensen, Loren Victor, Doug Heithold and Galen Samuelson.
