In the inaugural year of the Greater Northeast Activities Conference, track & field action took over Saturday, May 3 for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.
From the Roger Brink Track & Field Complex in Atkinson hosted by West Holt, eight teams made up the GNAC Championships.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls finished third with 56 points while the LCC boys took seventh with 15 points.
In the girls division, West Holt won the Greater Northeast Activities Conference team title with 205 points, Elkhorn Valley took second (82.5), LCC placed third (56), Hartington-Newcastle finished fourth (53.5) and Plainview rounded out the top five teams with 49 points.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were gold medals by senior Tali Erwin in the high jump (5') and sophomore Kate Tasler in the 1600-meter run (5:45.9/PR).
Sophomore Carlie Kvols collected a bronze medal in the 800-meter dash (2:31.57) and sophomore Faith Galvin finished third in the 3200-meter run (13:23.39/PR).
Sophomore Justice Olson placed fifth in the 3200-meter run (13:50.18/PR) as freshman Taelynn Settje took fifth during the 100-meter hurdles (13.76) , sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.8) and sixth in the long jump (15' 3 1/2"). She had a personal best in the 200m prelims (28.27).
In relays, the 4x800 of Kvols, junior Tyler Recob, sophomore Justice Olson and Kate Tasler finished runner-up (10:28.81), the 4x400 of sophomore Hattie McCorkindale, Erwin, Recob and Kvols placed third (4:26.1) and the 4x100 of McCorkindale, Settje, freshman Grace Galvin and junior Laney Folkers took fourth (55.12).
During the boys division, West Holt won the Greater Northeast Activities Conference team title with 217 points, Summerland took second (75), Plainview placed third (72), Elkhorn Valley finished fourth (65.5) and Hartington-Newcastle rounded out the top five teams with 64 points.
LCC was led by junior Jaylen Carpenter with a bronze medal during the shot put (44' 6 1/4").
Senior Preston Rose placed fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:21.88) followed by junior Shane Langford in sixth (5:29.74). Langford also took sixth in the 800-meter dash (2:20.82).
In relays, the 4x400 of sophomore Hunter McGhee, senior Carter Korth, sophomore Hunter Benson and sophomore Ian Sohler placed fifth (3:52.42), the 4x800 of Langford, freshman Sebastiaan Van Drongelen, Benson and Carter Korth took fifth (9:47.69) and the 4x100 of freshman Nathan Boysen, freshman Weston Patefield, Benson and McGhee finished sixth (49.27).
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys track & field team will next compete at home during the Winside Invite held in Laurel on Thursday, May 8.
