Essynce Owens-Webb wins gold, Blue Devil girls take fifth in highly competitive Battle Creek Invite; Wakefield girls led by Natalee Nelson in third

Two local high school girls wrestling programs joined several area programs to open the week.

From Battle Creek, Wayne High and Wakefield were listed among 30 teams competing in the Battle Creek Girls Invite on Monday.

The Wayne High girls finished fifth with 98.5 points among their 12 wrestlers while the Wakefield girls placed 14th with 35 points among their 11 wrestlers.

Battle Creek won the Battle Creek Girls Invite with 131.5 points, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (BHSA, SD) followed in runner-up (127.5), Summerland took third (119), Canton, SD placed fourth (113.5) and again Wayne rounded out the top five teams with 98.5 points.

The Wayne High girls were led by Essynce Owens-Webb (100) with gold while Kadence Rees (155) followed in second and Nyla Bolles (135) earned a third place medal. Alexa Chavez (135) also won the JV division.

Other scoring came from Andrea Bacillio (105), Lupita Alba (110), Gracelynn Daniels (115), Macy Wilson (120), Serenity Heil-Ellis (125), Megan Magnuson (130), Ivette Ozuna (140) and Janelly Lucas (190).

The Wakefield girls were led by a bronze medal from Natalee Nelson (190). Jennifer Lopez (110) also won the JV division as Kira Centurion (120) placed fourth in the JV division.

Other scoring came from Erica Chicaj Pol (110), Tiffany Chase (170) and Mileny Romero Hernandez (235) while Katelyn Walsh (115), Maria Perez (125), Angie Miranda (130), Melony Manjarrez (135) and Jazmynn Scott (155) were also in action.

The Wayne High girls will join their boys program on Saturday, Jan. 25 for the Mid State Conference meet hosted by Boone Central in Albion.

The Wakefield girls will be off until joining their boys team for a home triangular with Winnebago and Cedar Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Trojan boys will be competing in the Madison and Oakland-Craig Invites this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24 – 25.
