The Dixon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car versus motorcycle accident at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 35 north of Wakefield on May 5 at 5:42 a.m.
Deputies from the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office, Wakefield Fire and Rescue, Nebraska State Patrol and Wings Air Rescue were dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of the Chevy Malibu, 42-year-old Cain Pacheco Escobar of rural Allen was southbound on Highway 9. The driver of the motorcycle, 35-year-old Ernesto De La Cruz of Wakefield was northbound on Highway 35 and Highway 9.
The driver of the Chevy Malibu began to make a left turn to go eastbound on Highway 35 and collided with the motorcycle in the northbound lane of travel.
Cain Pacheco Escobar was transported to Providence Medical Center in Wayne with minor injuries. Ernesto De La Cruz was life flighted to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha where he was pronounced dead.
This incident is still under investigation by the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
