One Wayne Herald area boy advanced to the semifinal round with all eight others still in action during the consolation round of the 2026 NSAA State Wrestling Championships.
Also, the Winside boys basketball game scheduled for Thursday night at Cedar Bluffs was canceled due to weather. The second-seeded Wildcats (7-14) are off until the D2-4 subdistrict at Wynot facing #2 Randolph on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Day one boys wrestling action was highlighted by a 2-0 start from Wayne's Sr. Grant Maas (B157) at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha.
Grant Maas, who picked up wins by decision of 14-11 and 8-6, will wrestle in the semifinal round at 6 p.m. Friday.
Other day one results for Wayne: fall to consolation round one.

Jr. Emmanuel Gonzalez (B113) lost by fall (3:22)
Jr. Maddox Ziska (B285) lost by fall (2:47)* advances to consolation round two Friday mid-morning with a bye (District 1 wrestler had a DQ for unsportsmanlike conduct).

Sr. Ruben Vega (C157) lost by fall (3:11)
Moving into the afternoon session for Classes A/D, three Wayne Herald athletes were in action. All three fell to the consolation round.

Jr. Landon Newton (D126) lost by fall (2:46)
Sr. Nate Franzluebbers (D285) lost by decision (5-0)
Winside:
Jr. Stratton Sellin (D165) lost by fall (3:01)
Day two for Classes B/C will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday for consolation round one followed by consolation round two.
Day two for Classes A/D will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday for consolation round one followed by consolation round two.
All classes will be in action for semifinals and consolation round three (heartbreak) at 6 p.m. All classes return on Saturday at 9 a.m. for consolation semifinals followed by third and fifth place medals. Championships finals are set for 3 p.m. on Saturday and will be televised on Nebraska Public Media.
