Day two of the 2026 NSAA Boys State Wrestling Championships concluded with consolation round three and semifinal matches.
Wayne, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Wakefield and Tri County Northeast were also in action closing out their regular season for high school basketball along with both Wayne State College softball and baseball on the diamond on Feb. 20.
Back at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, Wayne's Sr. Grant Maas (B157) suffered a loss by fall (2:55) during his semifinal match.
He will next open consolation semifinal action Saturday morning.
Others in action needing one more win in the heartbreak round to advance to medal contention were Wayne's So. Grady Maas (B106) and Jr. Maddox Ziska (B285).
Grady (B106) lost by decision (9-2) ending his season at 36-11.
Maddox (B285) suffered a loss by tech fall 1.5 (16-0, 3:44) falling to 21-16.
Earlier in the morning during Class B/C consolation action, Wayne's junior Emmanuel Gonzaelz (B113) suffered a loss by fall (3:56) closing the season at 19-16 while Wakefield's junior Baldwin Garcia (C106) lost by fall (4:33) falling to 13-15 with Sr. Ruben Vega (C157) winning his first match by decision (7-5) before being eliminated by fall (1:38) to finish his career at 28-9.
In the afternoon session during Class A/D consolation matches Winside's junior Stratton Sellin (D165)
lost by fall (4:50) ending his season at 34-17 while Tri County Northeast's junior Landon Newton (D126) lost by major decision (16-2) falling to 31-16 as well as his senior teammate Nate Franzluebbers (D285) winning his first match by fall (4:20) and also picking up a win by decision (9-2) to enter in Friday night heartbreak action.
Franzluebbers suffered a loss by fall (0:10) to close out his season at 37-17.
Moving into high school basketball, the Blue Devil boys won 51-46 over Pierce in Wayne.
WHS (12-12) will be the #3 seed in the B-3 District opening at #2 Crete on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.
From Laurel, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge dropped a 75-45 decision to Wynot.
LCC (8-15) will next be the #3 seed in the C2-6 Subdistrict hosted by Crofton. The Bears will face #6 Stanton on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
From Wakefield, the Trojans secured a 64-59 victory over West Point-Beemer.
Wakefield (15-8) will be the #2 seed in the C2-4 Subdistrict hosted by Norfolk Catholic. The Trojans will open against #3 Elkhorn Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.
From Stanton, the Tri County Northeast boys snapped a four-game losing streak thanks to a 62-45 win over Stanton.
TCNE (5-20) will next be the #4 seed in the C2-4 Subdistrict hosted by Norfolk Catholic. The Wolfpack will open against #5 Homer at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23.
From Topeka, KS, the Wayne State College softball team began the Washburn Tournament with wins of 9-1 (five innings) over Newman (KS) and 5-0 against the host Washburn.
The Wildcats (7-1) were next scheduled to face Emporira State on Feb. 21.
From Joplin, MO, the Wayne State College baseball team began NSIC play with a split on a neutral field.
The 'Cats won 8-6 over St. Cloud State before suffering an 8-7 loss to the Huskies.
WSC (5-4, 1-1 NSIC) will again face SCSU on Feb. 21.
