As postseason recognitions begin to roll out, the first of many for the Wayne Herald area is Wayne High softball in the Mid State Conference.
Three of the five Mid State Conference selections were First-Team honorees being senior Nyla Bolles, sophomore Kinnley McGuire and senior Mackenzie Nissen while Honorable Mention selections were awarded to freshman Avree Abler and sophomore Courtney Roeber.
Wayne High finished their season at 19-11. Head coach Rob Sweetland retires as the all-time wins leader in Nebraska high school softball (620) after coaching every Wayne game since the program began in 2002.
In just the final 11 games, due to an injury over the summer, Nyla Bolles reached safely via a base hit in all but one game totaling 15 hits (four doubles) while hitting .429 and scoring 12 runs.
Nissen (1,922 pitches) worked 117 and two-thirds innings in the circle finishing with a record of 14-10 in 27 starts. She recorded 116 strikeouts, walked 37 and hit just three batters while holding opponents to a .280 batting averaging and posting a 3.391 ERA.
Nissen also finished with 20 hits (four doubles), 11 RBI and two homeruns.
Kinnley McGuire produced a team-high five doubles, was second on team in hits (27) and singles (22) while also tying for second in RBI (17). She scored 14 times.
Abler commanded the box from behind home plate with a 1.000 fielding percentage as a catcher, totaling 146 putouts, 14 assists and three double plays. She recorded 23 hits, 13 RBI and 14 runs.
Roeber posted a team-high 30 hits (23 singles), drove in a season-best 20 runs, crossed the plate 25 times and finished with the most extra base hits being seven (three doubles, four triples).
