Wayne State College will be represented by five athletes who qualified for the NCAA Div. II Indor Track and Field Championships that will be held March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kan.
In men's action, senior Robert Sullivan will compete in the heptathlon for the third straight season. He scored a season-best 5,177 points at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open on Jan. 25, and is ranked 13th in NCAA Div. II. He will begin competition on Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m.
Sophomore Cade Kalkowski and junior Dylan Kaup have both qualified in the weight throw as first-time NCAA Indoor national qualifiers. Kalkowski won the NSIC championship in the weight throw and ranks ninth in NCAA Div. II with a best mark of 66 feet, 3 inches at the Husker Invite on Feb. 1. Kaup was the runner-up in the weight throw at the NSIC Championships and ranks 15th in NCAA Div. II following a season-best throw of 64-3 1/4 at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato. Both will compete on Friday, March 8 at 4:55 p.m.
Two women will compete for the Wildcats at national. Sophomore Jadin Wagner is a first-time NCAA indoor national qualifier in the shot put after recording a season-best throw of 47-11 3/4 at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open, and is ranked 19th in the nation. She will compete at nationals on Saturday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m.
Redshirt freshman Mckenzie Scheil qualified in the weight throw and will compete on Friday, March 8 at 2:25 p.m. Scheil’s qualifying mark of 60-2 1/2 came at the South Dakota/Dakota Realty Alumni Meet on Feb. 2. She ranks 15th in NCAA Div. II entering the national meet.
