With snow needing to be pushed off Bob Young Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the Wayne State College football team left it all out on the field overpowering their opponent in the run game.
During the Nov. 8 NSIC South Division showdown, the Wildcats won 42-13 over Sioux Falls.
WSC has now won three straight improving to 6-4 (6-3 NSIC)/4-1 South) snapping the three-game winning streak of the Cougars who fell to 6-4 (5-4 NSIC/2-3 South).
Following an early score by USF (missed PAT), the Wildcats scored 21 straight points.
Redshirt junior running back Dawson Forgy first raced in from 35 yards out (8:21 left in second quarter) followed by two additional scores by Forgy from two yards (1:32 remaining) and one yard score (0:13).
WSC led 21-6 at half.
Again the Cougars would strike early in the quarter to pull within 21-13.
The Wildcats followed with a 60-yard third quarter score from Forgy (1:01 left in the third) and set a single-season record with 19 rushing touchdowns and his fifth score of the game on a seven-yard rush (5:19 left in fourth).
Sophomore tailback Brennan Hayes closed scoring on a 51-yard score (2:14 remaining in game).
Final favored Wayne State College winning 42-13. Junior placekicker Boston Hensley went 6-6 on PATs.
Sophomore Bennett Dannenbring started the game going 7-12 for 56 yards.
Redshirt freshman Brady McGill went 1-4 for six yards and ran the ball 11 times for 65 yards.
Forgy took control on the ground with 28 rushes for 181 yards and five touchdowns to go along with a 14 yard reception. Hayes followed with 70 yards on seven carries and one score.
Sophomore Keaton Bonderson hauled in three receptions for 20 yards while junior tight end Dane Petersen tallied two catches for 17 yards.
Other receptions came from sophomore Alex Phelps (six yards) and junior Ty Johnson (five yards).
Junior Brayden Chaney recorded a team-high 10 tackles (eight solo) and a tackle for loss followed by redshirt junior Kaden Johnson with eight tackles (four solo), one tackle for loss and an interception.
Junior Luke Lambert posted six tackles (three solo), one tackle for loss and a sack as junior James Frank had three tackles (two solo) with a tackle for loss. Senior Kaden Sutton also had a tackle for loss during his lone solo stop.
Redshirt freshman Kahmel Johnson recorded an interception to go along with three tackles (one solo). Redshirt freshman EJ Davis had three pass breakups.
Wayne State College finished with 65 plays for 378 yards (316 rushing/62 passing) while Sioux Falls was limited to 298 total yards on 68 plays (219 rushing/79 rushing).
WSC finished 10-17 on third down and 2-2 on fourth down while posting a 6-6 finish on redzone scores and chances. USF went 7-14 on third down and 1-2 on fourth down while going 1-2 on redzone scores and chances.
Wayne State College will conclude their season hosting #5 Augustana on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. The winner will earn a share of the NSIC South Division with #16 Minnesota State-Mankato.
