From the Wayne County Courtroom, Cali Heikes, former Winside teacher was sentenced to two years in jail Wednesday.

She will also need to register on the Nebraska Sex Offender list for 25 years. After her sentence ends, she will face 18 months of parole.

Heikes pleaded guilty to two felony charges on July 12. Those included First Degree Sexual Abuse by a School Employee and Second Degree Sexual Abuse by a School Employee.

A third charge, another Second Degree Sexual Abuse by a School Employee, was dropped at that time.

In January, Wayne County Sheriff Jason Dwinell received a call reporting a potential relationship between Heikes and a 17-year-old student at Winside High School.

Following that tip, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department arrested Heikes, who according to court records, had sexual relations with the student multiple times, both in his home and in a nearby cemetery.

The former teacher's bond doubled in March when a letter from Heikes to the victim was found.
