Foster earns Academic All-American honors

Wayne State College junior defensive end Kolbie Foster was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division II Football Team, earning Second Team honors.

Foster, a 6-4 220-pounder, carries a 3.77 grade point average majoring in family consumer science and fashion merchandising. He becomes the fifth Wildcat player in program history to collect Academic All-American honors, joining Lamont Rainey in 1994 (RB, 2nd Team), Jeff Shabram in 1999 (OL, 1st Team), Luke Hoffman in 2008 (LB, 1st Team) and Jon Davis in 2014 (DB, 2nd Team).

The award is voted on by College Sports Information Directors of America and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Division II Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America teams program.

On the field this season, Foster received NSIC South Division Honorable Mention honors after ranking third on the Wildcat defense with 52 total tackles (40 solo). He tied for sixth in the NSIC in tackles for loss (13 for 84 yards) and was tied for seventh in the NSIC with two forced fumbles to go with 6.5 sacks for 59 yards. Foster had a season-high eight tackles against Winona State and had seven tackles with a forced fumble against Bemidji State. He had a season-high two sacks at Concordia-St. Paul.
