Ahead of a Friday road outing, the Wayne High baseball team was on their home diamond Thursday evening.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed a fellow Class C program of Tekamah-Herman.
Thanks to the seventh time scoring double figure runs, the Wayne High baseball team picked up an 11-1 victory over the Tigers. WHS has now won five straight to improve to 12-5 while Tekamah-Herman fell to 0-10.
The Blue Devils started strong with a four-run bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Jaxson Kneifl began with a RBI groundout driving in sophomore Adrian Contreras, sophomore Chase Sturm reached safely on an error scoring senior Alex Rodriguez before closing out with a two-RBI single from junior Parker Patefield allowing senior Calvin Ankeny and junior Drew Reinhardt to cross the plate.
WHS then continued with two-runs the next inning to go up 6-0. Contreras scored off an error while Kneifl stole home during a pick-off attempt to first and scored.
Wayne High added two more runs in the home half of the third inning to lead 8-0 when Munter doubled in Reinhardt and Sturm.
Tekamah-Herman produced their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth.
WHS answered with a single run the next half of an inning thanks to Reinhardt driving in Rodriguez.
The Blue Devils followed with two finals runs in the bottom of the fifth. Contreras reached safely on an error allowing Munter to score as senior Gavin Redden recorded a RBI base hit scoring Contreras.
Final by run rule in five innings favored Wayne winning 11-1 while outhitting Tekamah-Herman, 12-3. Wayne didn’t commit an error compared to five errors by the visiting Tigers.
Brodey Munter singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Adrian Contreras singled, doubled and scored three runs as Alex Rodriguez singled, tripled and scored twice. Drew Reinhardt singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.
Parker Patefield singled and drove in two runs; Jaxson Kneifl singled, drove in a run and scored; Gavin Redden singled and drove in a run; Calvin Ankeny singled and scored as Chase Sturm scored.
Kneifl (74 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out four batters, walking four and hitting one.
