Four Blue Devils with multiple hits

For the third time and fifth game, Wayne High competed on their home diamond.

From the Wayne Softball Complex, Wayne High hosted O’Neill on Tuesday.

A strong second inning allowed Wayne High to set the tone early en route to a 9-1 win in five innings. The Blue Devils have now won four straight to improve to 4-1 on the season. O’Neill fell to 2-3.

Wayne opened scoring with two runs in the first followed by a six-run second inning. O’Neill brought in a run during the top of the third as the Blue Devils scored once more in the fifth. Final favored Wayne High winning 9-1 and winning the hit department, 9-3. Both teams had one error.

Jordyn Gamble singled, tripled, drove in a run and scored; Sammi Gubbels and Lily Gubbels both singled twice and drove in a run as Nyla Bolles singled twice and scored.

Mackenzie Nissen singled and drove in a run; Courtney Roeber accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Rylin Hall added a RBI as Reagan McGuire scored.

Sammi Gubbels (69 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

The softball team will host Bishop Neumann on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with varsity competition at 6 p.m.
