Four-homeruns, three doubles and a walk off win in game one lead to WSC softball home sweep

A busy home weekend started with a Saturday doubleheader for the Wayne State College softball team.

From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, WSC entertained Bemidji State University.

A four-game losing streak came to an end thanks to home Wildcat wins of 7-6 in eight innings and 7-3. WSC moved to 25-16 (10-7 NSIC) while the visiting Beavers fell to 16-26 (3-15 NSIC).

In the opening game, Bemidji State took to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Following three straight scoreless innings, Wayne State College posted a five-run bottom of the fifth to go up 5-2. Sophomore Lillie Timm started with a two-RBI base hit driving in sophomores Emilee Marth and Jordyn Rochholz followed by a three-run homerun from freshman Maddie Scobee scoring senior Hayley Murphy and redshirt freshman Marli Stones.

Neither team scored in the sixth until the visiting Beavers answered with four runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead at 6-5.

WSC followed with a single run to force extras tied at 6-6 thanks to a solo homerun by Scobee.

After not allowing a run in the top of the eighth, Murphey used a sac-fly RBI scoring the game-winning run of sophomore Jordyn Klein.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 7-6 in eight innings while outhitting Bemidji State, 14-9. WSC committed two errors compared to zero by the visiting Beavers.

Maddie Scobee recorded two homeruns (three-run and solo) and singled; Hayley Murphey singled twice, accounted for the game winning RBI and scored; Jordyn Klein (scored game winning run) and Emilee Marth both singled twice and scored as freshman Leah Chance singled twice. Redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak doubled.

Lillie Timm singled and drove in two runs; Jordyn Rochholz singled and scored as Marli Stones scored.

Senior Samantha Felt (36 pitches) picked up the win in two innings of relief allowing one run off three hits while striking out two batters.

Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (56) started the first three innings allowing two earned runs off three hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Senior Grace Lucka (63) worked three innings allowing three runs off three hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

During the second outing, it was Wayne State College getting on the board early with two runs in the home half of the first inning.

Borngrebe used a two-RBI double driving in Klein and Marth.

Following a scoreless second, WSC added two more runs in the third. Solo homeruns were posted by Marth and Borngrebe.

The Wildcats plated three additional runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 7-0. Klein first drove in Rochholz, Marth doubled in Klein before Scobee reached on a fielding error allowing Marth to cross the plate.

Bemidji State did get on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth and one run in the top of the seventh.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 7-3 despite being outhit, 10-7. Both teams committed one error.

Kennadi Borngrebe recorded a solo homerun, doubled and drove in three total runs; Emilee Marth posted a solo homerun, doubled, drove in two total runs and scored three total runs while Jordyn Klein singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.

Jordyn Rochholz also singled and scored.

Sophomore Taylor Coleman (65 pitches) picked up the win in five innings allowing two earned runs off six hits while striking out four batters and hitting one. Felt (42) worked the final two innings allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out one batter.
