Frank and Kesting lead Wayne girls, Grant Maas clears 14' in boys pole vault for gold

A busy weekend of area high school track & field conference championships stole the show which included Wayne High.

From the O'Neill Track Complex, 10 teams made up the Mid State Conference Championships on Saturday.

The Wayne High girls finished seventh with 43 points while the Blue Devil boys took eighth with 16 points.

In the girls division, Pierce won the Mid State Conference team title with 100.33 points, Battle Creek took second (99), Boone Central placed third (74.5), Cedar Catholic finished fourth (52) and O'Neill rounded out the top five teams with 47.33 points.

Wayne High leaders were sophomore Addison Frank who finished runner-up during the pole vault (9' 6"/PR) and freshman  Alivia Kesting earned a silver medal in the high jump (4' 10"/PR). Kesting also placed third during the 800-meter dash (2:28.81). 

Freshman Kamden Dobbins took third in the high jump (4' 8"/PR) as fourth place medals came from junior Nyla Bolles in the 400-meter dash (1:01.81) and junior Elle Powicki during the 100-meter hurdles (15.93).

Junior Lilyan Hurner also picked up a sixth place time in the 1600-meter run (6:06.61/PR).

In relays, the 4x100 (Powicki, freshman Courtney Roeber, Frank and junior Clara Ankeny) placed third (53.92).

During the boys division, Boone Central won the Mid State Conference team title with 114 points, Battle Creek took second (106), Cedar Catholic placed third (77), Pierce finished fourth (74) and Ponca rounded out the top five teams with 58 points.

Wayne High's top performer was junior Grant Maas picking up a gold medal during the pole vault with a new personal best (14').

In relays, the 4x800 of sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez, junior Boden Dobbins, sophomore Thomas Raymundo Bacillio and senior Kasen York collected a bronze medal (8:42.62).

The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next compete on Thursday, May 8 during the Battle Creek Invite.
