All five Wayne Herald high school football programs took to the field Friday night, Wayne High softball played in their first games of the weekend and Wayne State College continued their time in Nashville, TN.
From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, Wayne High suffered a 55-7 loss to Cedar Catholic. The Blue Devils fell to 0-2 as the Trojans improved to 2-0.
Wayne High will next visit Omaha Brownell-Talbot on Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge traveled to Pender and dropped a 50-21 decision to fall to 0-2. The Pendragons are now 1-1 on the season.
LCC will next travel to Emerson to visit Tri County Northeast on Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
Winside picked up a home win of 48-36 over Madison to move to 1-1 as the visiting Dragons fell to 0-2.
Winside is next scheduled to visit St. Edward/Newman Grove on Friday, September 12 at 3 p.m. in Newman Grove.
Wakefield suffered a 57-6 loss at Hartington-Newcastle to now sit 0-2 as the host Wildcats improved to 2-0.
The Trojans will next visit Bloomfield on Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
Tri County Northeast hosted Bloomfield in Emerson and lost 68-0 falling to 0-2. The Bees are now 2-0 on the season.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op is next scheduled to host Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in Emerson.
Wayne High softball traveled to Papillion during the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic Tournament to play two games. The Blue Devils first lost 14-3 to Millard North before winning 6-3 against Fossil Ridge (CO).
Wayne is now 7-3 and will return to Papillion for more action on Saturday.
#21 Wayne State College returned to action playing two more matches during the Ray Thrasher Classic in Nashville, TN.
WSC swept both Alabama Huntsville (25-20, 26-24, 25-14) and Erskine College (SC) (25-10, 25-12, 25-6) to improve to 3-0.
The Wildcats will close out their season-opening trip with the host Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
