Wayne High and Wakefield basketball, Wayne bowling, Mid State Conference championships for wrestling, Winside and Tri County Northeast wrestlers along with Wayne State College home indoor track & field as well as Wayne State College basketball took over Jan. 24.
From Wayne, the Wayne High girls basketball team picked up their second straight win thanks to a 37-34 victory while the Blue Devil boys dropped a 54-49 decision against Blair.
The Wayne girls (11-8) and boys (10-8) will next host North Bend Central on Jan. 27 at 6/7:30 p.m.
From Norfolk the Wayne girls were crowned champion while the Blue Devil boys finished runner-up at the Norfolk Invite.
The Wayne girls were led by a fifth place medalists of Marie Allemann with a 489.
Aiden Petersen was crowned the individual champion for the boys tourney shooting a 713 (top five NSAA Class B record).

The Wayne bowling program will next host NSAA B-6 district competition. Boys districts will be on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. while girls districts will be on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. also at Wildcat Lanes.
Back at the Norfolk YMCA, the Wayne girls wrestlers finished fifth (93 pts) among the eight teams while the Blue Devil boys placed seventh (80) among the 10 teams during the Mid State Conference Wrestling Championships.
Top Blue Devil girls medalists were posted by Nyla Bolles (140) as a conference champion while Megan Magnuson (130), Zoe Bolles (145) and Ivette Ozuna (155) all took silver.
Reagan McManigal (115), Alexandria Ziska (170) and Jasmine Contreras (235) each placed third.
The Wayne boys were led by conference champion Grady Maas (106) while Taven Ocampo (165) and Keaton Gregory (175) both earned a bronze medal.
Isaiah Zarate (120) took fourth.
The Wayne wrestlers will next host a triangular on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
From Oakland, the Winside girls/boys and Tri County Northeast girls/boys were in action during the Oakland-Craig Invite.
In girls action, the Tri County Northeast girls finished fifth (57) and Winside took ninth (38) among the 11 teams.
Top TCNE medalists were Jenni Olson (100) and Kiya Tornez (155) both crowned champion while Andrea Bacilio (100) and Jayda Stallbaum (135) each took runner-up
Leah Johnson (125) placed fifth.
Winside was led by a pair of bronze medals by Raylyn Behmer (120) and Aspen Sellin (140).
Maci Schmidt (130) finished fourth as Avery Brummels (100) took sixth.
During boys competition, the Tri County Northeast boys tied for fifth (96) and Winside took 10th (46) among the 15 teams.
Top TCNE medalists were Braxten Sebade (150) and Nate Franzluebbers (285) both collecting a silver medal while Landon Newton (126) placed third.
Taven Kent (132) took fifth as Aidan Isom (144) finished sixth.
Winside was led by invite champion of Stratton Sellin (165) while Braxton Hansen (120) and Landon Carlson (157) both took fourth.
The Winside girls and boys wrestlers will next host Bancroft-Rosalie on Jan. 27 at 7 p.m.
Wakefield boys were originally scheduled to compete, but withdrew from competition due to injuries. The Wakefield boys wrestlers will next join their girls team at the Winnebago triangular on Jan. 27 at 5 p.m.
The Tri County Northeast boys wrestlers next complete at the Plainview Invite on Jan. 31 at 9:30 a.m. while the girls are off until the B-1 District Championships on Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. hosted by Plainview.
From Wakefield, the Wakefield girls basketball team dropped their second straight following a 69-37 loss while the Wakefield boys have now won back-to-back thanks to a 60-47 win against Clarkson/Leigh.
The Wakefield girls (2-14) and boys (9-6) will next host Tekamah-Herman on Jan. 27 at 6/7:30 p.m.

From Minot, North Dakota, the Wayne State College women's basketball team dropped their third straight following a 68-61 loss while the WSC men won their third straight thanks to an 85-77 win at Minot State.
The Wayne State College women (9-11, 4-10 NSIC) and men (12-8, 8-6 NSIC) will return home on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 hosting Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. Women's games will be played first at 5:30 p.m. (Jan. 30) and 3:30 p.m. (Jan. 31).
