Gerry L. Hurlbert, 71 of Wayne, formerly of Carroll, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at Providence Medical Center, Wayne.

 Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at the United Methodist Church in Carroll. Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1 at the United Methodist Church in Carroll.

Memorials may be directed to the Hurlbert family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Gerry LaVern Hurlbert was born Feb.28, 1952, along with his twin brother, Terry in Wakefield to LaVern and Mernie (Vanderbilt) Hurlbert. He attended school in Carroll and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Carroll. Gerry served as a Medic in the United States Army. He was married on May 4, 1976, to Cynthia Moritz and together they lived in Carroll and raised their daughters Kristen and Kimberly.  

Gerry worked for Nucor Steel in Norfolk for 31 years. Gerry loved working in his yard and home and enjoyed spending time with family and friends on his fishing trips and camping, but most of all attending his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of Wayne; daughters, Kristen (Jason) Wehrer of Axtell and Kimberly (Chad) Bruns of Wayne; grandchildren, Jacob Wehrer and Kassidy Wehrer of Axtell, Karlee Woehler, BreAnna Bruns, Jaycee Bruns and Brystol Bruns of Wayne; sister, Karen (Larry) Palen of Bismark, North Dakota and brother, Terry (Paula) Hurlbert of Omaha; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVern and Mernie Hurlbert; nephew, Dion Palen and in-laws, Louis and Lorraine Moritz.
