Ashten Gibson was one batter away from a perfect game Tuesday as the Wayne Dirt Devils 18-under team posted a 6-0 shutout of Arlington in action at the Summer Sports Complex.

Gibson sat down 16 of the 19 batters she faced with strikeouts as she threw a no-hitter, giving up just one walk while throwing 60 strikes in 78 pitches during six innings of work.

Wayne got all they would need in the second inning when Jamie Gamble scored Kiara Hochstein with a single to right. They added another run in the third on a Gibson double that scored Danica Schaefer, then put the game out of reach in the fifth with four runs, thanks to RBI singles by Schaefer, Gibson, Josie Thompson and Jenna Trenhaile.

Schaefer, Gibson, Trenhaile and Gamble each had two hits in the win as Wayne improved to 21-2-1 on the season.

The Dirt Devil 18’s will take part in the Class B state tournament this weekend in Hastings.
