Growing up I always enjoyed going to those fun special camps that were only offered in the summer.
I would go to a Christian camp for a week most years, but one year I was able to go to space camp. In my fourth grade year, I went to a week-long space camp. There I learned all about space and rockets and even got to build my own model rocket and launch it at the end of the week.
It was a great week, but halfway through it, on Wednesday, the leaders shared a “fact” that threw fourth grade me for a loop. We were learning about the moon, and the leaders said that people have never landed on the moon because it is too bumpy and there is no runway for the rocket ship to land on. I’m not so sure about that. As far as I knew, and still am aware, people did land on the moon in 1969. Even in space camp, lies make their way in and unfortunately people listened.
In the Gospel of John while speaking to His Father, Jesus says, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” God’s word is truth. Jesus says He is the way, the truth, and the life. The word of God is truth. Jesus is the truth.
There are a lot of lies out there about the world, about who you are, about anything and everything. Amidst all the noise in the world and our own lives, we can rely on the truth of the word of God.
God shares His word with us in the Bible. The Word became flesh in the God-man Jesus Christ. God’s word is truth, and what truth does God reveal to us through His word? He shows us that we are sinful. He reveals the truth that we cannot on our own, be saved; we need a savior. That Savior is Jesus Christ.
Jesus truly died on a cross for you. He truly and physically rose from the grave, defeating death. The truth is that God loves you, and through Christ, and only Jesus Christ, there is salvation.
May we trust in God’s word. May we ever hold fast to our Savior Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen
