Discussion on the differences between golf carts and all terrain (ATV) and utility vehicles (UTV)and fees associated with operating those on city streets was among the topics debated when the Wayne City Council met in regular session on Monday.
An agenda item was brought forth when several owners of ATVs expressed concerns that they were required to register their vehicles and pay annual fees and those driving golf carts on city streets were not.
Police Chief Marlen Chinn said that adding golf carts to the police registration system would require adding an additional category and involve a great deal of work.
Additional discussion on the agenda item will take place at a future meeting.
Elwyn Howard was approved as the newest member of the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department. He currently serves as a dispatcher with the Wayne Police Department. He has three years experience with the South Sioux City fire department.
In other action, council members approved a resolution involving an amendment to an agreement with JEO Consulting for additional services for the 2026 Water Improvement- Logan, Nebraska and Windom (7th to 10th Street) Project.
