Gordon C. Hansen, 90, of Dixon, died Sunday, April 23, 2023 in Wayne.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Concord, with the Rev. William Bertrand officiating.  Burial will be at the Ionia Cemetery in Newcastle, with military rites by the Newcastle American Legion Post #62. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.  Visitation will continue, at church, on Friday one hour prior to services.

Gordon Christian Hansen was born Feb. 27, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa to Soren and Marie Hansen. He grew up in Dixon and graduated from Dixon High School in 1950. Gordon married Celia Grace Ellyson on Sept. 15, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa. Gordon joined the U.S. Army in May of 1953. He did his basic training in El Paso, Texas. After basic training he was stationed on an artillery site in Bayonne, New Jersey until May of 1954. He then went overseas to Germany until March of 1955. He was a private and was a Korean veteran. Gordon lived in Sioux City after the service and worked for Sioux Tools until he moved back to Dixon in March of 1967 to farm with his dad. Gordon farmed northeast of Dixon for the rest of his career. Gordon was a caregiver for his wife, Celia, until she passed in November of 2008.

Gordon is 100% Danish and very proud of his heritage. When he was 19 years old he traveled by train to New York and took a ship to Denmark to visit relatives. Gordon married Harriet A. Johnsen on June 23, 2012 in South Sioux City. They lived recently at Kinship Pointe in Wayne.

Gordon was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on the church council for many years. He loved making homemade wine and enjoyed sharing it with others. He also loved welding. Gordon’s greatest treasure in life was his family.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet, of Wayne; six children Kathy (Joe) Carr of Townsend, Montana, Cheryl (David) Danek of Grand Island, Laura (Randy) Sullivan of Martinsburg, David Hansen of Newcastle, Carol (Dean) Bernardy of Bloomfield, Jeanne (Randy) Kneifl of Newcastle; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Soren and Marie Hansen; his wife, Celia; two sisters, Lily Marion Ellyson, Elin Powers; and an infant brother, George Hansen.

Pallbearers will be Randy Sullivan Jr., Jonathan Danek, Brandon Bernardy, Jarrett Buckles, Jensen Kneifl, Cody Stewart, Justin Bangert and Jake Malcom.

Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Carr, Pat Onderstal, Chris Miller and John Connot.
