It was a jam packed day of wrestling to open first round and quarterfinal competition for the 2025 NSAA Boys State Championships on the mats.
From the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, fans again packed in the stands to support their wrestlers.
After day one action in Class B, the Wayne boys have seven points and are tied for 28th among the 45 teams with wrestlers.
Omaha Skutt Catholic leads Class B after the first day with 75.5 points as Waverly followed in second with 44.5 points.
Grant Maas (150) from Wayne picked up two wins on Thursday to improve to 35-6 and advance to Friday night’s semifinal. He has also guaranteed himself a medal.
Grant Maas first picked up a 3-1 decision over Eli Pilakowski from Lakeview followed by a 10-6 decision over Jace Larchick from Gretna East in the quarterfinal.
Three other Blue Devils will look to fight off first round consolation matches following Thursday first round action.
Ethan Gregory (120) lost by tech fall (1.5 – 1:34, 17-2) to Cole Welte from Omaha Skutt Catholic; Noah Magnuson (132) lost by fall (1:01) to Daylen Naylor from Lexington as Maddox Ziska (285) lost by fall (1:12) to Spencer Steinbeck from McCook.
Wakefield’s Class C 144-lber Domingo Centino suffered a loss by fall (3:55) in his opening match on Thursday.
