Grant Maas takes sixth during boys state wrestling championships

Champions were crowned and top medals honored throughout Saturday during the 2025 NSAA State Wrestling Individual boys state championships.

One last time for the fifth straight day (girls Tuesday/Wednesday) at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, consolation semifinals and medal rounds stole the show on Saturday.

Wayne’s Grant Maas began his day in the consolation semifinal with a loss by fall (3:43) during the Class B 150 division against Aaron Wilson (Cozad).

Maas later suffered a loss by fall (2:33) to Isaac Kelley (Hastings) in the fifth place match. He ends his season at 35-9 and a sixth place state medal.

Earlier in the tournament on Friday, Ethan Gregory (120) finished his season at 20-18 following a loss by tech fall (1:34, 17-2), Noah Magnuson (132) closed at 21-27 after suffering a loss by fall (2:54) and Maddox Ziska (285) went 23-18 this season following a loss by fall (4:30) all in consolation first round going 0-2 at state.

This now brings the count to three medals back to Wayne. Nyla Bolles (39-5) earned silver during at Class A135 as Essynce Owens-Webb (32-8) took fourth in Class A100 during the girls finals to go along with a sixth place Class B 150 medal for Grant Maas.

Also, Wakefield’s Domingo Centino (144) ended his season at 27-14 following a loss by decision (13-7) going 0-2 at state in Class C.

Battle Creek was crowned Class C boys champions with 119.5 points just edging Minden (118.5). Cedar Catholic placed third with 108 points.
