Hammer, McBride to compete in first Nebraska Track and Field Festival

Wayne High seniors Kylie Hammer and Grayson McBride have both qualified to compete in the first Nebraska Track and Field Festival, scheduled for Friday, April 21 at Papillion-LaVista South High School.

The meet is a first of its kind in the state, which features some of the top returning talent from last year’s state track meet competing alongside top performers so far this spring.

Hammer was a runner-up last year in the long jump, while McBride finished third in the high jump to qualify for this year’s meet. Both competitors will also compete in the triple jump, thanks to their top performances so far this season.

Under NSAA rules, this all-star meet counts toward each athlete’s nine-meet limit, coach Dale Hochstein said. As a result, they will sit out another meet on the schedule prior to districts.

Action at the first Nebraska Track and Field Festival will begin at 3:30 p.m. All events are finals only with no preliminary heats.
