Wayne’s track and field teams finished in the middle of the pack in a tightly-contested team race at Tuesday’s Mid State Conference meet at Kern Stadium in Wayne.
The Wayne High girls finished fourth in a very tightly-contested race that went down to the last event, and the Blue Devils were led by Kylie Hammer, who won four gold medals on the day with wins in the long jump, triple jump and 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Andrea Torres was a double medalist in individual races with a third in the 3,200 and a sixth in the 1,600. Jenna Trenhaile finished fourth in the shot put, Gabi Meyer was fourth in the 800, Molly Hoskins finished fifth in the 1,600, Masyn Dorey took fifth in the pole vault and Kelsey Boyer finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. Wayne also medaled in all three relays, with fourths in the 1,600 and 3,200 and a fifth in the 400.
In boys action, Wayne was a solid fifth in the nine-team competition, and Grayson McBride was a double winner with firsts in the high jump, going a season-high 6-foot-6, and in the triple jump, where he beat teammate Mason Lee by one inch. McBride also had a fifth in the long jump.
Christian Rogers earned a pair of medals with a fourth in the 200 and a fifth in 100. Lee was second in the triple jump, Nolan Reynolds placed third in the pole vault, Tyler Pecena took sixth in the 400 and Cody Rogers was sixth in the long jump. Wayne medaled in each relay, with the 400 taking third, the 1,600 finishing fourth and the 3,200 taking sixth.
Wayne will finish the regular season Thursday at Battle Creek, and will host their district meet next Thursday, May 11, at Kern Stadium.
