Wayne State senior defensive back Glenn Harris was named to the 2017 Don Hansen NCAA Div. II Football All-America Team, named to the Second Team Defense as a safety.
Harris, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior from Kansas City, Mo., was a first-team All-NSIC South Division selection this season after leading Wayne State and the NSIC with eight interceptions this season, which was tied for second in NCAA Div. II. His eight interceptions also tied a single-season school record shared by Steve Besch (1984) and Charlie Wendt (1970). Harris also tied for third in the NSIC this season with 12 passes defended.
Harris made interceptions in six games this season that included a season-best three interceptions at Augustana on Sept. 30 that tied a single-game school record held by four other players. He also recorded interceptions against University of Mary, Minnesota Duluth, Winona State, Concordia-St. Paul and Upper Iowa.
Harris had 34 tackles including 27 solo stops this season to go with 2.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four breakups. He recorded a season-best six tackles, all solo, at then-top ranked Minnesota State Nov. 4.
Other postseason honors awarded to Harris this year include D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Football Second Team, D2Football.com All-America Team Honorable Mention and Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region Four First Team.
Harris is the first Wildcat football player since offensive lineman Joe Bundy in 2010 to receive Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American honors.
