Pink Flamingo Nite, an annual event to share information on cancer awareness, raise funds for various projects to assist cancer patients at Providence Medical Center and provide an evening of fun, food and fellowship will be held Thursday, Oct. 12..

Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne will host the event, which  runs from 5 to 9 p.m. that evening.

It will include cancer awareness information, a light meal, Lisa (Walton) Berge sharing her cancer survivor story,  a raffle for two quilts, music, door prizes and more.

A variety of vendors will have craft items and home-based businesses items for sale as part of the event.

Included in this year's program is music by The Heavenly Hens.

In the fall of 2017, Brenda Nissen of Allen formed a women’s triple trio made up of three sopranos, three second sopranos, and three altos.  It is an ecumenical group, with several denominations represented; Methodist, Church of Christ, Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Non-Denominational, and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

"This October we will have been singing together for six years.  We have sung at churches, county fairs, women’s gatherings, and fund raising events for local charities. Our performance at the Pink Flamingo event will be our 78th performance.  We consider singing a ministry, and we never charge for our performances.  If we are given money, we donate to a local charity or school," Nissen said.

When asked how the group got its name, Nissen said, "Well, one fall afternoon we were practicing at a member’s farm, watching the chickens in the backyard. And an idea was “hatched”, and “hensforth” we have called ourselves The Heavenly Hens!  If you’d like to follow us, we are on Facebook."

"Singing together has been a true blessing to each of us. And we love sharing our faith in Jesus Christ through music, and have a whole lot of fun along the way," Nissen added.

Raffle tickets and tickets for the event can be purchased at any of the banks in Wayne,  Missa Sue's in Laurel, The Quilt Shop in Wakefield, Midwest Bank in Pilger (tickets for the event only), numerous businesses throughout Wayne and at the church office or through the event's Facebook page.
