Homecoming Week to be celebrated at Wayne High School

Wayne High School is busy planning Homecoming festivities for the week of Sept. 25-29.

Queen candidates this year include Kierah Haase, daughter of Rick and Mindy Haase; Kate Hill, daughter of Mark Hill and Karen Longe; Jersi Jensen, daughter of Darin and Jessi Jensen; Faith Powicki, daughter of Mike Powicki and Liesel Powicki; and Liberty Titiml, daughter of Jesse and Val Titiml.

King candidates include Jeff Brizuela, son of Marcelina Vargas and Ravul Quintanilla; Alex Frank, son of Jesse Frank and Heather Frank; Sam Junck, son of Dwaine and Priscilla Junck; Mason Ley, son of Matt Ley and Sandy Brown; and Garrett Schultz, son of Amanda Hank.

Spirit Week will have dress up themes each day.

Monday is Alphabet Day; Tuesday is Country vs. Country Club; Wednesday is Holiday Day, and Thursday is Anything but a Backpack Day.

There will be numerous sporting events during the week for everyone. Monday, Sept. 25 the Blue Devil Cross Country Team will attend the UNK invite. On Tuesday, the volleyball team has a match at West Point-Beemer. On Thursday, softball girls compete at home against Guardian Angels C.C., girls volleyball is home against Lutheran High at 7:45 p.m., and girls golf has a home triangular at 4 p.m. Friday the football team will play at 7 p.m. against Raymond Central at Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College.

Fun days are planned for the students and community to participate in during the week.

On Sunday, Sept. 24, homecoming festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. with the “burning of the W” in the Wayne High parking lot. There will be a free-will donation hot dog feed to follow as well an opportunity to compete in an inflatable obstacle course for $2 and meet the homecoming court.

Tuesday night students will participate in Lip Sync Battles held in the lecture hall. On Wednesday night the community is encouraged to come watch the Powderpuff games as the girls demonstrate their football skills and the guys showcase their competitiveness in volleyball.

Admission is $2 per person for the event.

This year the coronation ceremony for homecoming will be held at Bob Cunningham Field on Friday, Sept. 29 at halftime of the football game.

Performances during halftime will be given by the Pride of the Blue Devils Marching Band and the She Devils Dance Team.

The dance will be held at Wayne State College Kanter Student Center following the football game from 9:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Students in grades 9-12 may attend. Admission is $5 per person.

The Student Council invites and encourages the community to join in the celebration of Homecoming Week 2023.
