Earlier this month, northeast Nebraska natives participated in the 2025 Nebraska Junior High Track & Field Championships.
From Gothenburg on May 17, the 'all-class' invite attracted athletes/districts from across the state.
The top 24 individual athletes and 16 relay teams qualified.
Wayne eighth grader Tayla Hurner earned eighth place medals in two running events. She posted personal best times of 2:27.39 in the 800-meter run and 5:30.5 during the 1600-meter run.
This past season, Hurner broke both Wayne Junior High school records during the Mid State Conference Junior High meet being the 800-meter run of 2:29.57 (previously held by Lisa Peters in 1988/2:31.7) and the 1600-meter run of 5:43.67 (previously held by Marcella Jurotich in 2014/5:47.5).
For Wakefield, eighth grader Colt Johnson took bronze in the boys 200-meter hurdles (27.23).
For Winside, eighth grader Aftyn Schutt took home ninth in the girls shot put (31' 2 1/4") and 18th in the high jump (4' 6").
For Tri County Northeast, eighth grader Logan Kraemer finished 20th in the boys triple jump (34' 5 1/2") and 21st during the long jump (16' 11").
Again, the top 24 boys and girls all-class in each individual event plus the top 16 relay teams will be invited to compete based off the official 2026 results posted to your schools Nebraska middle-school athletic.net website.
