IT'S UNANIMOUS -- Wayne State volleyball #1 in AVCA poll

Posted

Last week, Wayne State was the No. 1 team in the country according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s coaches poll.

This week, it’s unanimous.

The Wildcats received all 47 first-place votes in this week’s Div. II Coaches Poll, marking the first time Wayne State has been a unanimous No. 1 selection.

The voting comes after the Wildcats swept No. 4 St. Cloud State and No. 9 Minnesota Duluth on the road over the weekend to improve to 16-0 on the season, matching the 2010 team for the best start in school history.

Both St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth held their positions in this week’s poll, with Concordia-St. Paul also staying put at No. 3 behind MSU Denver. Southwest Minnesota State moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 to give the Northern Sun Conference five of the top nine teams in this week’s poll.

Other Central Region schools included this week are No. 6 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 8 Washburn, No. 10 Northwest Missouri State and No. 18 Central Missouri.

The Wildcats will be at home this weekend, welcoming Bemidji State for a 7 p.m. tilt Friday and Minnesota Crookston for a 1 p.m. match Saturday at Rice Auditorium.
