Lauren Jacobsen of Wayne State College was announced as the 2021 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for volleyball Thursday evening.

The award was presented to Jacobsen during the pregame of the Wayne State vs. Northern State quarterfinal volleyball match at the NSIC Volleyball Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC’s 18 Championships.

Jacobsen, a native of Wisner, is majoring in Public and Global Health/Pre-Med at Wayne State College. The Wisner-Pilger High School graduate holds a 4.0 grade-point average while playing defensive/serving specialist for the Wildcats. Jacobsen has played in 61 sets this season with 48 digs. She holds a .929 serve reception percentage, has 18 service aces and scored 19.0 points in her 22 matches played.

She serves as treasurer on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee this year and has represented Wildcat volleyball on the SAAC Committee for four years. She is an NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence honoree and Edward Jones Presidential Scholar Athlete recipient.

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration during the 2016-17 academic year, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
