It's a new year and season 2025 turns into the 2026 portion of the schedule where a trio of Wayne Herald girls wrestling teams traveled to Winnebago along with Winside, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Tri County Northeast basketball teams on the court.
From Winnebago, the Wayne High girls wrestling team finished fifth with 106 points, Tri County Northeast took 23rd (36.5) and Wakefield tied for 30th (29) among the 39 teams.
Top Blue Devil medalists were posted by Nyla Bolles (140) with a gold medal while Lupita Alba (110), Ivette Ozuna (155) and Alexandria Ziska (170) all finished fifth.
In JV action, Arianna De La Isla Cardenas (120B) won her division, Gracelynn Daniels (120) took third as Leilah Bratcher (120B) finished fifth.
A Tri County Northeast varsity leader was Kiya Tornez (155) in third. JV leaders were posted by Jayda Stallbaum (135B) winning her division while Leah Johnson (130) finished fourth in JV.
Wakefield's top performer came from Natalee Nelson (190) who earned a bronze medal.
The Wayne High girls wrestlers will next travel to the Wakefield triangular along with Winnebago on Jan. 5 at 5 p.m.
Tri County Northeast girls wrestlers are off until Jan. 12 during the Summerland Invite starting at 1 p.m.
From Lyons, the Winside girls secured a 41-30 victory while the Wildcat boys held on for the 56-53 win at Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
The Winside girls (4-6) and boys (5-5) will next visit Madison on Jan. 6 at 5:30/7:30 p.m.
From Laurel, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls suffered a 57-52 loss against Archbishop Bergan during a girls only contest.
The LCC girls (6-4) will next be joined by the boys team (3-5) on Jan. 6 traveling to Elkhorn Valley starting at 4:30 p.m.
From Emerson, the Tri County Northeast boys dropped a 66-48 decision against Cornerstone Christian during a boys only contest.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op boys (2-7) will next join their girls team (3-5) on Jan. 5 hosting Bancroft-Rosalie in Emerson starting at 4 p.m.
