Joann Lucille Wert Temme was born Aug. 19, 1931 to Harry and Lucille (Westlund) Wert in Wayne. She was baptized and confirmed at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne. Joann attended school in Wayne and graduated from Wayne High School in 1949. She took classes at Wayne State College and worked at Griess Rexall. Joann enjoyed telling her grandchildren that she had been a soda jerk.

Joann married Frederick “Fritz” Temme on Aug. 26, 1951 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wayne. Fritz left for the army that fall and after his military service, they moved to the farm northwest of Wayne. Joann was a busy farm   wife, raising a family, gardening, helping with chores and providing meals to harvest crews. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Grace LWML, Duo Club and worked with young people in Sunday school, VBS, high school and college youth groups.

After 31 years on the farm, Joann and Fritz moved to their home on Fairacres Road in Wayne. She continued to volunteer in the community and traveled with Fritz to meetings and on vacations. No matter where she was, Joann loved to meet people and make new friends. She took many photos of her new friends and scenery as they traveled. Photos, programs and newspaper clippings found their way into scrapbooks and photo albums too numerous to count.
