John H. F. Haye was born on Oct. 9, 1928, near Scribner. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in agriculture. Farming was his passion for his entire life, working with his brothers even while in college to purchase land. He farmed near Omaha, Blair, Herman and Bancroft, and he also followed the wheat harvest with his son, Michael, for two seasons.

John served in the Army Reserves, working with the Army Corp of Engineers to build roads and bridges in Nebraska and Colorado as the Korean War came to a close. John was a foreman with Serta in their furniture building division before leaving to farm full time. He enjoyed working with wood and upholstery all his life and built sofas, chairs, kitchen cabinets, pergolas, trellises and clocks. His last project was to build birdhouses in the shape of the farmhouse his parents built near Bancroft.

In 1957 John married Ann Louise Taylor in Omaha, Nebraska. They were married just short of 40 years at the time of her passing. During that time, while John farmed, Ann worked as a nurse and they raised their four children. They enjoyed their time with their grandchildren and life on the farm surrounded at times by a horse, cows, other farm animals, and dogs and cats. After Ann’s passing, John married Doris Granquist Gaunt in 1997, fully retired and moved to Wayne. John and Doris were members of the First United Methodist Church. They enjoyed dancing and traveling to visit their family throughout the US and also accompanying his children on trips to the national parks. In later years, both John and Doris resided at the Wakefield Care Center.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children Susan (Robert) Smith, Steven Haye, and Jeffrey (Jenyl) Haye; by his siblings Henry (Lynn) Haye, Charles (Madelyn) Gleeson, Richard Gleeson, Eunice (Fred) Jalaas, and Marian Haye (widow to Julius); by his grandchildren Bria (Tommy), Branden (Sandra), Olivia, John, and Claire; by his great-grandchildren Riley and Hailey; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George John Haye and Christina Adeline Margret Windhusen Haye Gleeson; his stepfather, Leroy J. Gleeson; his wife, Ann Louise Taylor Haye; his wife, Doris Granquist Gaunt-Haye; his son, Michael J. Haye; and his brother, Julius G. Haye.
