Joined by her teammates and fellow classmates, Joslyn Johnson was excited to continue to pursue a degree in education along while playing the sport she loves of golf.

Even with the cooler temperatures outside, it was nice and warm in the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium where the sport of golf was highlighted. Johnson signed with Peru State College Monday afternoon for women’s golf and plans to study elementary education.

Joslyn Johnson said she has been in communication with coach Sue Owen with Peru State College.

“We had been talking and so I went down there and I just loved the campus,” said Johnson. “A good team, like atmosphere and a good coach was going to make my decision of where I wanted to go. So, I just loved their team, I loved the campus and I loved the coach. So, it was pretty easy to decide that I wanted to go there.”

Johnson, who is a four-year starter at Wayne High School, holds numerous individual and team Blue Devil records. She helped lead the Blue Devils to three straight team District Championships, back-to-back Mid State Conference Championships and the 2024 Class C State Championship.

Over the past three years the Wayne High girls golf team has defeated 335 schools and only lost to 31 (in 2024 Wayne went 125-2 enroute to the State Championship).

Johnson added her top memoires was winning and returning with multiple trophies along with being with her teammates.

“But spending that time with all my teammates,” Johnson added. “It was really just great and I love them all. And then winning the station championship was just the icing on the cake and was just the best way to end the season with that group of girls.”

Johnson will be joining another Wayne teammate of Lindsay Niemann who signed back on December 19 with the Peru State College women’s bowling team.

Individually, Joslyn Johnson is also a three-time conference medalist led by Mid State Conference first place medals in 2023 and 2024.  Other top honors for Joslyn Johnson include being a three-time district medalist of third (2022), first (2023) and second (2024) along with two sate medals (14th-2023/fifth-2024).

Johnson also highlighted her excitement for the college competition.

“Be in a little different atmosphere,” Johnson highlighted. “I am, obviously like a little nervous to leave home but who isn’t. But I think it will be exciting to go and be somewhere else for a little bit and figure out what I want to do.”

Joslyn Johnson earned Class C All State honors in 2024 and has also participated in the Northeast Nebraska Golf Tour the past two seasons where she earned runner-up honors in 2023 and won her division in 2024.

Joslyn Johnson mentioned her father and coach, Josh Johnson was great while helping her and the team.

“For me, I was kind of like ‘I know pretty much what I need to do and if I can have that support from you while I figure what I need to do and I know what I just need to do to be good’ then that was great,” Johnson mentioned. “Just be that support and just kind of help me and be confident with my ideas of what I want to do.”

Peru State College women’s golf will resume their 2025 spring schedule on March 11 – 12 in Lawrence, Kansas as Johnson plans to attend some local tournaments to cheer on her future teammates.

Once the conditions improve to be on the course or on the range, Johnson plans to start preparing for competition mode.

“Probably play some different courses,” said Johnson. “My dad said that we’re going to play Peru State’s home course, so we’ll play that one a couple times. We’ll just go around and play a bunch of different courses, probably walking and some driving just to get back into the feel of it but not have that competitive aspect yet.”

Joslyn Johnson has also been part of three straight bowling team championships at Wayne High (2022, 2023 and 2024).
