Judith “Judy” Ann Smith, 84, of Grand Island, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society.

A family graveside service will be held at the Winside Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Judy was born on May 22, 1941 in Norfolk,  to Otto and Edna (Nieman) Carstens. She attended school in Hoskins.  Judy was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside.  Judy was united in marriage to Linden Smith.  To this union one son, Chad was born. 

Judy worked as an assistant manager at Grand Island Bottle Shop and then as a shipping clerk at Overhead Door.  She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.  Judy enjoyed stock car races, watching NASCAR and Husker football.  She held a special place in her heart for her dogs and gave them a spoiled and wonderful life. Her greatest pride and joy was her grandkids and she cherished the time they spent together. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Chad (Dawn) Smith of Grand Island; granddaughters, Hayley Nichole Smith of Carroll and Carley Jo Smith of Omaha; step grandson, Riley Ruge, US Navy and step granddaughter, Marlie Ruge of Clarkson; brothers, Dale (Carolyn) Carstens of Brandon, South Dakota; nieces, Vicki (Bob) Lochner, Tammy (Steve) Silvernage and Debra Banicki; nephew, Curt (Michele) Carstens and special friends, Lori and Randy Gibson and LaDonna Ortega.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Carstens; grandparents, Carl and Meta Nieman and beloved dogs, Missy and Sophie.
