Junior High Conference: Wayne results released

During a stretch of three meets in six days, Wayne seventh and eighth graders were represented well during the Mid State Conference Championships over the weekend broken down into four divisions.

From Albion, Wayne Junior High track & field competitors joined nine other teams on Saturday hosted by Boone Central.

The Wayne eighth grade girls finished fifth with 36.5 points while the eighth grade boys took ninth with 20 points as the Blue Devil seventh grade girls placed third with 79 points and the seventh grade boys totaled 17 points for an eighth place finish.

In the girls division, Boone Central held off Norfolk Catholic (71-68) in the eighth grade team race while Pierce topped Battle Creek (96-84) to win the seventh grade division.

Wayne Junior High leaders were seventh grade event champions by Penelope Zavada Cupp who won three events being the girls 100-meter hurdles (19.54), the 200-meter hurdles (33.42) and the 200-meter dash (28.54); teammate Hadley Dunklau won the girls 1600-meter run (5:52.47) and seventh grader Ady Hays also won the 800-meter run (2:47.62).

Top Wayne eighth grade results came from Tayla Hurner in second during the 1600-meter run (5:43.67) and runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:29.57). Hurner also took third in the high jump (4' 6").

Elizabeth Hix placed third in the 1600-meter run (6:23.51), Hannah Hank took fourth in the shot put (26' 7 1/2") as fifth place finishes came from Sienna Lipp in the high jump (4' 4") and Alex Ziska during the discus (67' 9").

Lilly Redden collected a sixth place medal during the 800-meter run (2:49.99) as Reagan McManigal tied for sixth in the pole vault (5' 6").

In relays, the 4x400 of Sienna Lipp, Lilly Redden, Elizabeth Hix and Tayla Hurner finished second (4:47.2).

Other seventh grade results were led by Ady Hays in third during the high jump (4' 4") as individual fourth place finishes came from Zavada Cupp in the 100-meter dash (13.6), Chloe Kai during the triple jump (27' 5") and Sadi Fredrickson in the pole vault (5' 6"). Hadley Dunklau also took fifth in the pole vault (5' 6").

Sarah Kuchta placed fourth in both the 1600-meter run (6:21.36) and 800-meter run (2:53.93) as Rose Kaup finished sixth in both the 1600-meter run (6:25.96) and 800-meter run (2:57.97).

In relays, the 4x100 of Lorelai Sorenson, Neveah Hanson, Ady Hays and Chloe Kai placed runner-up (59.46) and the 4x400 of Chloe Kai, Sarah Kuchta, Rose Kaup and Hadley Dunklau took fifth (4:59.15).

During the boys division, Battle Creek edged Norfolk Catholic (72 - 70.5) in the eighth grade team race while Pierce topped Battle Creek (83-71) in the seventh grade division.

Wayne eighth grade leaders were Chase Rethwisch who placed third in the triple jump (35' 4 1/4") and Logan Walling finished third in the high jump (5').

Jacob Fehringer took fourth in the 800-meter run (2:32.98) and fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:39.9) as Brayden Stegemann earned a fourth place medal in the high jump (5').

Cash Tili placed fifth in the shot put (35' 4 1/2") and Walling also placed sixth in the discus (97' 9").

In relays, the 4x400 of Colston Starzl, Brayden Stegemann, Jacob Fehringer and Chase Rethwisch placed sixth (4:27.5).

Blue Devil seventh grade results were posted by Hudson Willrich who took second during the 100-meter hurdles (18.43) and third in the 200-meter hurdles (34.56).

Louie Severson collected a fourth place medal in the high jump (4' 8") and took fifth during the 100-meter hurdles (20.05).
