The Wayne American Legion Post 43 Juniors let a four-run lead get away late as Waverly came back to post a 9-8 win in the B-3 area final Wednesday at Valley's Legion Field.
Wayne sent 10 batters to the plate in the third and scored six runs on their way to an 8-4 lead after four innings, but four errors in the final two innings allowed Waverly to score three in the sixth and two in the seventh to post the come-from-behind win.
After trading runs in the first, Waverly scored two to take a 3-1 lead before Wayne's big inning, highlighted by two-run singles from Zander Liston and Brody Munter.
Wayne would add another run in the fourth on a suicide squeeze by Garrett Anderson, scoring Alex Rodriguez to make it 8-4.
Rodriguez, Liston and Drew Reinhardt each had two hits to highlight an 11-hit attack. Anderson, Liston and Brody Munter each had two RBIs and eight of the nine starters each scored a run.
Rodriguez pitched five solid innings, striking out seven and allowing six hits, four walks and three earned runs on 101 pitches. Parker Patefield pitched two innings and was credited with the loss.
